That car was flipper's on this FORUM and he was close to having it ready for competition this year , also he bought my quickrack and fitted it. Then up popped a car for sale that he used to own many years ago so simply couldn't resist buying it but two '' toys '' were out of the financial question , hence the Stylus was sold.
Regarding the vin plate ---- in 1998 the factory would supply you with a code number for the car which most people fixed to the pedal box top plate . Just a very simple SSC009817 for example which meant supplied in 1998 and was the 17th chassis ever supplied.
Once you'd passed the SVA as was then you had to apply to the DVLA to have it inspected . Amongst other things they would want to see the engine number plus SSC's issued chassis number and if happy would issue you with a registration number , normally via post several weeks later. Also they would give you a VIN number which was to be permanently stamped onto the chassis NOT the fibre glass bulkhead. The position advised to me was on top of the 50x25mm's chassis rail close to the drivers side rocker tower -------------- but individual builders put it more or less where they fancied .
I borrowed some letter and number punches and made an ally plate 6 inches by 1 inch then SIKAFLEXED it in place .

It's obviously not going to match the factory number which at one time was accepted as the final vin number so PETER POWELL told me in 1997.
Doesn't sound to me as though he has anything to worry over
I just love the Stylus but she keeps swallowing £££ !

Hi folks.

I'm me! on locostbuilders and this is my first post on here, so hello to you all.

Thanks for your help with this, I'm just praying that the V5 turns up at some point in the near future, or I'm going to have a bit of a problem applying for a new one! So is it likely that the original Sylva/SSC (I'm not sure when the kit was purchased) is the one listed on the V5? If so what was the purpose of issuing the new VIN, and should the DVLA have a note of both, so I can use the one on the bulkhead to apply for a new V5 if necessary?

Does it sound like there has been a mix up/something more sinister at some point or is this just how things were pre-SVA change?

Thanks again

I can't be dead certain but 17 digits rings a bell if it was issued by the DVLA , where as I said above , the manufacture simply issued theirs to prove make/date/chassis number .

These are mine ---
On chassis = DVLA
On ally plate now not on car = manufacturer's number

Hi Craig.

Pre-SVA was a bit of a free-for-all from what I can tell. SVA was introduced May 1998 (I think?), and my car was registered just before this, so of a similar vintage to yours by the sounds of it. I'll double-check my car when I am back near it...

When IVA came along a 17 digit chassis no. was required. But you could do your own. Most of us used the SSC numbers & extended them, some just asked DVLA to supply.

Does it fit in this list? Matt, have you an update?

mytextcheck gives the last 4 digits of the VIN as 0107, so it doesn't really fit into that list if it was SVA'd in June 1998.

The number on the bulkhead is 17 digits and the SABTVR0 type, which is DVLA issue I believe. The last 4 digits there aren't even close to 0107. I can't find any numbers stamped onto the chassis itself, or witness marks where one had been.

Ummm..... certainly won't make this mistake again!

Was the stylus ever available factory built? I ask as someone on locostbuilders has said his striker has a chassis number starting 'cf' which he believed stood for crossflow. This would seem odd if the car was sold as a kit? May be clutching at straws now...!

I can't be certain but I'm pretty sure that ALL kit car manufacturers would offer factory builds , due to the extra profit and timescale of that profit . Kits can take some people many years to buy and build , bits at a time

Mine is SSC02092 (Jeff Bond V8). This is also the VIN number which the dvla accepted no problem.

Different areas seemed to accept different things rather like the SVA test that was
