Zetec sump options

I've currently got a standard silvertop sump on my Zetec and though I don't think it's ever grounded out it was certainly on my mind when pushing hard at the weekend. It's easily the lowest part of the car. Even losing an inch from it would make me feel heaps better.

What are my options? I'm expecting them to all be fairly expensive, but what is everyone else using?

I use RACELINE's very expensive ally finned/capacity increased/baffled sump but once I'd bought it then used Paul Dunnell's internals to upgrade the engine , he showed me his sump which actually had more capacity and some clever internals he wasn't prepared to give away , as it prevented the occasional pressure drop at certain rev's on the dyno which were present with my Raceline sump fitted. He was quick to tell me it was way cheaper too but not as '' good looking '' if you're bothered about such things. Look him up on Google or phone him to chat --- and don't forget to say who directed you to him

Cheers Rob, I'll investigate that. Not fussed about looks - it's hidden under the car after all

I have a scholar shortened and baffled sump on my blacktop. I fell on it lucky on eBay so got it for a song. They are basically shortened silvertop sumps. So they may do an exchange for yours or sell you a fresh one.

So I've done a load of research and the Dunnell/Scholar sumps are essentially the same and both well regarded. Raceline's is hilariously pricey and Tiger's is unbaffled and therefore useless for anything except storing bits of broken engine.

Eyes peeled on eBay it is then! I've got a couple of months before my next sealed surface event in the Stylus, and that one's on a flat surface so there's plenty of time.

Here's the current clearance - another 3cm off that would make me feel much less nervous!

My Scholar one is level with the bottom of the bell housing

I reckon that's about right - the Scholar/Dunnell ones are 16cm deep versus the standard Silvertop one at 19cm and the sump sticks down below the bellhousing by about 3cm on my car.

My Raceline sump is 30mm's below the bottom chassis rails which is pretty essential as the lowest chassis level at the front is 75mm's :P

Another vote for Scholar. I now have a dry sump & the clearance is the same (pump sits low & is bottom fed).
I still have the Scholar as a spare, had a few offers for it but reluctant to let it go in-case I have to quickly put a standard engine back in.

Kev, fancy a part-ex with a silvertop sump which provides kinda workable clearance? In reality I've never so much as scraped it, but with the car seeing most of its miles on rough country roads I just don't want to tempt fate...

Hi, reluctant to sell, but happy for you to try/borrow short term.

Image this is what is hanging on the bottom of mine at the moment, I'm in the throws of getting another sump to send up to scholar to do there magic. The sump is about 19 cm deep so with the scholar I can drop the front 25mm and keep the same clearance .
