I've probably left it a bit late to enter B&HMC event but think I'll send for the reg's :| Strangely , they charge £30 less than TWMC do at Goodwood :? After the new harness expense then deciding on Prescott for a stylus meeting point , I decided to miss Goodwood's August 4th out this time but 'envy' got the better of me

You never know -- they might be short of entries

Filled out the form but will send the cheque off on Monday  that way it wont get banked too soon  I've asked Len whether there'll be a ' late ' extra charge ----- he says NO so that's rather nice seeing as it'll be 5 days over the last entries date on arrival :!:

Well , if you don't ask , you don't get  and it gets very boring just looking at the Stylus in the shed :(

I've been told that my class / sports libre , has a Cortina M2 5700cc  and an Ultima 4400cc :?: :?: plus my old rival Nigel Baker in his 280bhp Escort spaceframe .

So it looks like we could both be in for a shock , especially the Ultima which will have awesome grip levels :!:

Good news for me ------- my family pit crew are away for the Goodwood sprint :( -- BUT Alec Martin , ex-orange RT owner , has volunteered to pit for me :P

Many thanks to Alec :!: , I'm very greatful :D . It's just too much on my own , especially if all doesn't go as planned regarding waiting inline for the start / stop , re - start / stop etc. Also find it easier for someone else to switch the camera on then actually start the video by the remote just before I fly off  I can't reach behind me to turn it on and if the remote's in my door pocket , it could very well turn the video off while it's bouncing around in there

Add to those -- an RX7 complete with race tuned 6.3lt CHEVY This car beat me last year by 4 or 5 sec's from memory :!: Mine was 96.08sec's for 2nd in class and his around the 91/92 mark

Having worried I'd be on my own at Goodwood for this B&HMC sprint , then very kindly Alec offered to pit for me :D --------------------- now Ned/Phil and Marty Bailey have said they'll be there to shout at me if I don't go quick enough  Cheers all , it's nice to have support :)
Mustn't damage anything though ---- there's Prescott to come 2 weeks later :P

What a day :!:
On the drive down it was semi dry untill we got to Petersfield when the heavens opened up and vision was around 15 yards , the sheet on the Stylus was dipped between windscreen and rollbar which filled with several buckets of water. Once we got to Goodwood and unsheeted the seats were full of water too --- everything was saturated , including the foam padding taped to the back of my seat , also the harness absolutely dripping. Alec set about drying everything while I signed on .
On the day our class was ---
ULTIMA 4.4 --- sent home due to sound failure
RX7 6.7 not 6.3 0VER 600BHP He told us
CORTINA 5.7 500BHP Apparently
ANGLIA TOYOTA 1.6 bhp :?:
ESCORT M1 spaceframe 284bhp he told me :!:
STYLUS 2.0 232BHP ---- 2nd in class at 93.84sec's behind the RX7 driven by Andy Embling :D
The RX7's best time on his very last run was just 0.45sec quicker than me at 93.39sec's

Untill 4-00pm and his last run , I was leading the class so started to believe I was actually going to beat him and his mighty beast :o
There was a huge entry , in fact the max for the cicuit so with the two lapper practice plus wet track early on , I didn't get a first timed run till after lunch around 2-00pm  So we were all sitting around under the paddock shelters talking for at least three hours , between practice and 1st run. After we'd talked cars/engines etc etc we ended up talking about dogs of all things but we did have a laugh in the process
Jeff Wiltshire/PHOENIX 300 bhp supercharged 2lt Zetec plus undertray flat floor and rear diffuser ---- not in our class but I have an interest because I set his car up last year which made him VERY quick. He was rather disgruntled most of the day , going slower than last year before fitting the flat floor plus supercharger etc , in fact several seconds slower than me ------ obviously something to do with either power not getting to the road or the diffuser , I told him. Why don't you just take the rear diffuser off as you were quicker than me before the extra power and diffuser , was my next advice ------- at first he said nah , can't be bothered BUT eventually he did then promptly set a time of 90.1 sec's :P ------------- JEFF NOW A HAPPY MAN 8)
So after a horrible start it was a good day although very late finishing.

I have three videos of my day , practice then two timed runs but can't put them onto my PC so will have to wait for Stuart to do it for me. I've got a youtube account now , it's just that the video doesn't download onto the PC :? Probably needs some softwear I don't have :?:

The camera's mounted on the rollbar crossbar now so the view is better and less vibration noise.

I forgot to say that my practice double lap --- standing start plus a flying lap was 174.06 sec's which I have never acheived before but suppose the tyres were really hot by then , there's just a slight doubt in my mind that it isn't correct :?
If it is then once those tyres are properly hot the grip is outstanding because it would mean an average lap time of 87 sec's :P for the 2.4 mile circuit.
I'm staring to think about £££ for lighter wheels plus slicks --- h'mmm

Good to hear you enjoyed yourself.

How do you feel running the extra camber helped? Will you be backing it off a little or trying an increase?

The runs were fine , maybe a tiny touch more understeer but the track wasn't as warm so not a very objective assessment . Quickest in JUNE was 93.43sec's and last weekend 93.84sec's trying VERY hard.

I'll back it off a touch ----------- I don't adjust adhock . I always measure the front left tyre temperatures across the inner/middle/outer . If then the temp is very close across the range I leave it. If the inner is hotter I knock it back OR if the outer is hotter I increase it. If the middle is hotter then tyre pressures are a little too high ---- if the inner and outer are both hotter than the middle then pressures are too low (for optimum grip at the pace I'm driving --- harder driving will allow more roll so more camber needed , then checked by temp measurements)

Over the years I've gone up and down on camber depending on other mod's or adjustments(shocks) which will then improve pace , so camber needed adjustment. It's a moving feast Dave , even a tyre change or weight loss will change everything BUT most wouldn't bother adjusting because it's a very fine point whether you're gaining unless you are very consistant in your driving so lap times can give you the answer

What I mean't to say but forgot was ---- '' thankyou very much Alec , for coming with me to help and Phil too '' who also pushed me around as required also providing a brolly when the sky leaked a bit
Marty Bailey said he'd support too and he did :D

Many thanks to all three :)
