HEALEY WEEKEND!

BAE Systems, Saturday
7th overall. Should have been 4th really, but I wrong tested on the last run. Got a blinding time but missed a gate - drove right next to it not through it!! In retrospect I should have waited another 15 mins before taking my run as the sun was just dipping below the building. With no roof, sun visors, helmet visors etc the glare was pretty bad around the 360 at the far end and I totally misjudged the exit for the gate.

Still, an ace day with only a few hundredths separating a few of us. Only one minor panic when what looked like smoke started pouring from the nearside front wheelarch. Stopped immediately and could smell it was actually coolant - a connection on the rad top hose where it joins the head was weeping. Tightened it up and there were no further issues.

Isle Of Wight College, Sunday
6th Overall, though not far off a couple of places higher. I always lack bravery at this venue as there are kerbs everywhere but by this time the Stylus was behaving well. The carb troubles seem to have cleared up after a clean out and a good thrashing.

Pretty happy overall. There's been some really strong competition this year. I reckon the Stylus has an event win in it; just have to get the driver to the same place  Certainly received plenty of compliments on the turn-in speed and general smoothness. The inboard front suspension always attracts a few comments. Feeling that I need to address the rev limiter though - the stock Weber Alpha limit is 6400 which is not quite enough headroom occasionally. Think nearer 7000rpm should be alright - I'm not doing it for the power, just the ability not to have to waste time upshifting occasionally.

One more event on the calendar, but I think I'll give it a miss as it's a tyre-eater and my Federals have worn really well all year so I don't want to destroy them for one event that's unlikely to change my place on the leaderboard.

Roll on the winter's tweaking - need to sort a new fuel tank, would like some GRP seats to get lower in the car and raise that rev limiter.

Very well done Joseph , a good position in just your second year . Time in the car gives as much , if not more performance than mod's

Healey Weekend video report part 1 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tp47CSVhtdQ

Currently debating whether I race tomorrow. Forecast is looking dry but the tarmac at Fort Street is really aggressive and shreds tyres...

And Part 2 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpybsJIt0l0

Didn't race today in the end - rubbish weather, carbs full of gunk (again!!!), abrasive tarmac... just stewarded instead.

Final video report from the season including a cool montage at the end of everything we've done this year: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qy1Yr421Q2c

I ended up joint 6th in the sealed surface championship this year. Not bad, but a little way off where I'd hoped to be. The aim for next year is to get an event win - a tall order, given the level of compeition and that there's yet another Locost entering now, but I think the Stylus can do it 8)
