My 2016 season

This year will be the first time since August 2014 that the Stylus has been entered at Goodwood , due to my ' body ' repairs or rather waiting for for an op' date. Twenty months is a long time out of competition at Goodwood but I've entered for the BOGNOR REGIS SPRINT at Goodwood on 23rd April .
The GTAm that I've been preparing for sprinting has done 1224 miles since the engine rebuild , so by next week it will be going for a rolling road session at Novatech in Slough , to optimise the fuel and timing . Next thing will be getting brackets welded onto the cage for a harness bar then need a harness. I'm entering it in the BRIGHTON & HOVE Goodwood sprint on 7th May. Probably not the forum to chat about Alfa's but thought I'd say anyway , as it will explain why my sprinting will be split between two cars this season. Time and cash only go so far.

Good luck for the season, and may the rain gods sod off for the year. I hope to do a few track days at goodwood this year to make good use of our GRRC membership. I love spectating down there, and the few laps I've done got me into this kit car thingy.

Weather forcast isn't great for Goodwood , sun and rain apparently , not certain in what order or time. My class consists of me and a Radical SR6 1475cc plus a Westfield XTR2 1298cc So not much potential for top points

A cold and windy but dry day , with sunny spells , so not the weather I expected. Absolutely hated the HANS device as it pushed my head forward and dug into my shoulders . However the clips weren't too bad to deal with.
I wasn't on best form , practice being 99.2secs then first timed run was 95.6secs . The second timed run was a second slower , no idea why as it felt a better run. Finally after waiting an absolute age , sitting in the Stylus waiting to be called up (oil/water spill being dealt with)I got my last timede run . Off in 1st , 2nd then somehow got a wrong gear , revved to  -------------- leading to a wasted run at 100secs :!:
So the 95 sec run made me 2nd behind Matt Carter in his SR6 Radical at 78secs  Third place behind me was a Westy XTR2 at 97secs from memory , so very pleased to beat that at least.
Not sure where that puts me overall but being 2nd in class and this event being my JOKER(double points)I get 18 points for today :P You have to name your choice of joker event before the season starts , 10 points a win , 9 points 2nd 8 then 7 etc ---- double those if it's your joker.
Best time in 2014 was 93.27secs

Well done Rob.
Was hoping to do a full season myself, but as always something comes along and spoils my plans. But this time for the better - I hope.

I removed the harness shoulder straps this morning to move the adjustment length at the shoulder end , so that the buckle sits further down the hans device . This way the buckle can't jam between the top seat harness holes but the extra length can be taken up at the bottom adjuster ----------------- hopefully anyway. Should allow my head/helmet to sit back further , as opposed to tilting my head forward.

Starts were poor , tramping a bit in 1st and 2nd too , so have clicked the rebound up 3 clicks then next time out I can decide if it's helped stop the grip slip hop routine  It's part and parcel of dropping the car VERY low via suspension mod's from standard , it then attacks the links at the rear from a shallower angle (although I've changed that too but not enough) hence the tramping.

Next event in the Stylus will be Goodwood 24th Sept then 2nd Oct Eelmoor. The next Goodwood 7th May I'm running the GTAm then again at Abingdon 4th June , then a CLASSIC ALFA Goodwood trackday where all cars will be classic Alfas on 16th July ----- nice to run with 50 other Alfas :P

That would spoil the car in my view , my laptime is more about ' me ' than car spec . Can't maintain my 10yrs ago pace Kev :( The other point is , the wind would hit me and my helmet , attempting to lift my head off ---- too old for that lark , it's cosy behind the screen :D

Well done Rob,

If you don't mind a couple of questions, are HANS required for all classes now?
What were the scruts like with your ROPS?

For all roadgoing classes the HANS is advised NOT a ' must wear ' device . Overall , helmet , fireproof balaclava , fireproof gloves , fireproof shoes are ' have to wear ' items . Fireproof underwear and socks are advised , not ' have to wear ' items , even in sports libre , modified and single seaters .
The scrutineer was as per usual , going very quickly through all his checks (they all have a favourite though :!: ) , asking to open the boot to see if it was sealed from the fuel tank ie. driver having no contact with possible leaks. At this point he had an opportunity to look at the Rops and it's construction etc but didn't even glance at it . I did have my log book plus the letter from MSA tech attached but was not asked to show it.

I've just had the Final's for next weekend's Bailey Sprint at Goodwood  Would you believe that myself/Alfa GTAm and 26 other cars are in my class . A few classics but mostly moderns and even Caterhams  Can't believe the mix and numbers of entries --- I'll just have to treat it as a test day , well , for the driver anyway
