I took the stylus for its first attempt at drag racing today at santa pod, really pleased, managed an 11.7 and an 11.9 and two 12.1's in reverse order! Had to be gentle with the clutch as on the first run i launched hard and managed a 1.8 60ft but the clutch didnt land all the way up the strip so rolled across the line at 96 mph in 12.6. The other runs were more gentle starts with 2.0 sec ish 60ft times.

Not bad for its first outing!

There was a cossie powered pheonix that ran 10.7 at 137

well I'm doing my bit to raise the profile of the Stylus, I have lost count of how many people have asked me what it is! usually followed by what's in it!

That's what being on track does for a car if it looks and goes well

Tim's in the wrong place to take any advantage from it though

If you could say to people here's where the factory is , somewhere central

, some would probably drive to see him and a percentage end up being buyers

It takes me 5 hours in the truck with trailer to get to Llanidloes

-- most people just wont bother unless half made up their mind anyway. Quite a few ask me where they are made when I'm competing . Shame isn't it

im sure if it was based in the Midlands, he may still well be going. Its a pain in the arse for us to get to aswell. Takes 2 hours to the seven Bridge, then another 2 hours from there for only half the distance. Would be ok if you wernt in a truck or van when going as the roads are good!

well its time for the next wave of changes....

I have picked up some tinted lens covers from Rob, thanks Rob. I think these will make it look good with the black on the body work.

I also picked up a turbo that I won on ebay. Its a TO4E which in RX7 world is an upgraded turbo but a small one. In real terms its still huge compared to say something like a cosworth T3/4.

I am hoping this will allow the engine to breath properly but still give little lag. I am hoping for around 300 - 330 bhp at the wheels which is about 350 to 370 at the fly, even if the torque stays the same I will be happy but it should go up a little. The main point is not just for more power but to give me power all the way up the rev range as at the moment peak power is around 5-5500 and it should be 7 - 7500.

Fitting the turbo should be fun, the steering column is right in the way

so i am going to have to get clever with the manifold fabrication.

I am also on the look out for a different CW&P for my atlas. The current 3.09 ratio means in fifth at 7450 rpm i would be doing 230 mph

obviously not enough power to get there though. I think that a 3.77 should do the trick, still be geared to 180 but not be so high that i just wheel spin. At the moment the low lag and torque means the 3.09 is bearable but with a little lag it may be more noticeable.

So, back in the garage for the evenings.

took the turbo off today, the new one will fit but its going to be tight.

you can see the bigger compressor housing here.

I have all this space to fit it but for a steering column. do they do wireless steering?

Looking at your bottom photo I can't sus ' out how the lower wishbone is mounted --- the bolt appears to be across the tube , not through it

the 2 nuts you can see are holding the rod end that pokes out of the tube. you can see the half inch bolt that hold the rod end into the original bracket.

It looks like i will moving the steering knuckle closer to the bulk head and then a straight run down to rack, it will actually have less of an angle and no more joins, but is quite a bit of work. hey ho!

So the tube that your rodend goes into isn't threaded then

That's a bit scary

Adjustment's limited too

I wouldn't be confident going through a 130mph bend if my observations are correct

There are proper rod end threaded inserts welded to the wishbone, the nuts are bolted to the exposed thread coming out of the back of the insert. They probably don't do much more than give me piece mind at 130! As the rod end can't come undone!

Have a look at the pictures of the wishbones on page 14 of this thread

The locking nut should be next to the rodend though as you've done on the other one

I had the same clearance problem --- clearing the Oil Filter. The attached photo is a plan view of the RHS of my Nissan CA18DET showing the Uni-joints & the second side view shows the Blue Filter installed. A straight steering shaft "went right thru that filter"

Rob, in an ideal world....... my cousin welded them and that was best he could do without remaking new w/bones. He's a coded welder so i know they are welded as well as they could be (most of the old buildings in london are held up with his welding). I stick to the basic stuff that wont kill me (or anyone else) if it fails

Thanks for that rosco, very helpfull. Is that just a normal rod end you have used to hold/mount it.

Have i got this right?? I would need to mount the end of the first section (from s/wheel) and the beginning of the 3rd section (to rack) but the middle piece of column wouldnt need mounting??

is there a limit to the angles the u/v joints will work at?
