Thanks, nice looking car you have there.

Yeah ok for that reason I can see the benefit, but that's a 'problem' I have at the moment and choose to take my chances - though it's nothing a bit of kevlar wouldn't resolve. There are lots of potential areas for paranoia, flailing prop shafts is a favourite of mine.
alecmartin19 wrote:i agree with rob too about the chassis stiffness is more influential than shedding a few pounds. i've just fitted 2 strut braces to my nissan skyline to stiffen it up further and it makes quite a bit of difference. you could almost feel the body flexing before. especially the front wings. not now!
same applies to the chassis. if it isn't strong but is light, it will still be under the same forces and the light one will eventually have flexed enough, work hardened the material and then crack and cause you to crash! Nasty!!
Oh sure I agree with you all. I'm not aiming for a featherweight, otherwise I guess I'd be building that r1ot after all. But it's easy to pile the pounds on, I've seen it, my Westfield is heavier than I would like, but theres not alot there that I don't think needs to be. And as for stiffness, I'd definitely be fitting a cage, which does make a significant addition (at the price of weight of course!).

Can anyone answer the approx weight of a finished Stylus question? Or is it shrouded in secrecy

Secrecy ?

No , of course not . Simply not possible due to individual build spec's . EG. Bike power , no doors , no screen , no fancy cockpit = 450 to 500 kgs --------- Zetec power , type 9 , proper doors , windscreen , carpeted interior and aftermarket seats = 600 to 700 kgs . Tim's 2lt Duratec = 550kgs(stripped out) . My own sprint car = 615 kgs(was originally a road car so has doors , screen , carpet , dash dials not digi , heavy duty body(first sample body from the Lasham aerodrome glassers 4 to 5 mm) Mine weighed 675 kgs when it was SVA'd

The point I'm making here , also why I didn't reply at first , is ----------- your car will be the weight you plan it to be

Well, yes, that goes without saying.

I plan it to be 400kgs, but that clearly isn't realistic  From your approximations, I would say it could possibly pitch in at 600kgs, which would be 400bhp/tonne, which is sufficient. Thanks for the pointers :)
