hmm...following the actual situation on the kitcarmarket, also comparing the advert price with similar cars, incl. paperwork. IVA and MOT (like a fisher fury), its well overpriced.

with a bit of luck, similar spec. fisher fury could be bought for 4.5 to 6k.

2.5k would be a good start for negotiating. if it woiuld be a bargain, the car would have been sold already

as it comes with an escort mk2 donor v5, it is noticeable that the car originally would have been built with a ford x/flow engine, which might have resulted in an age-related plate.

now it might result in a q-plate, also no info given in the advert about the engine-age (emissions)

My view would be , having built my own from a new kit , that you can't build a car to a good standard for that money , regardless of engine spec. Mine took £16,000 so it depends very much on what you see workmanship wise when viewing
Same goes for Fury's , I've seen good , nice and stunning ones for sale , obviously all at different sale prices
Present kit market is due to the financial state of this country , so people haven't got spare cash for hobbies and even if they have --- they'd be very wise to keep their hands in their pockets for a while .
Anyway , if you fancied it there's nothing stopping you putting a bid in , £3950 is his starting price --- it may only reach the £4500 figure you mentioned above

Hi,
Its my car for sale on eBay.

The car was built originally by Ricard Marriot whose name I have see on this site at some time.
A lot of money was spent at that stage and, after I bought the car, I have tried to maintain the same high quality build and component standards to bring it to the all but complete stage at which it is offered for sale.
I have other motor sport based hobbies which have overtaken the quest to get the Stylus on the road, hence the sale.

All I can say is that the offer price in no way matches the expense (I accept that this is usually the case with kit car sales) and that inspection is the answer for anyone interested.

Since getting the car I have been an avid and interested reader of contributions to 'Club Stylus' and have gained a lot of useful advice, knowledge and reassurance from the experiences described on the forums. Thanks to members.

the kitcar market was and is a special market. kitcars have no "real" value, like historic cars or collector items. and the value drops tremendously if the car has no registration.

especially in terms of refunding the investment, i would go so far and say:

invest 15.000pund in building up such a type of kitcar and try to sell it the first day after registration. with a bit of luck you might face 10k..but its more likely to get only 8.

a mate of mine bought a xxxx Seven type car a year ago: the car was built from the factory as demo car and was well known from exhibitions..it was new when advertized for sale: 14k....months later 12k...half year later still for 12k but a comment in the last sentence of the advert: "the first who turns up with 8.5k buys the car"..and it was finaly sold for 8k.

another example: a 2005 xxxxx with rover v8, ex-factory race-car, 2 owners, was recently advertized for 8k and finally sold for 4.7k to another mate of mine.

On the flip side though I've seen cars go for their asking price. All depends on if the right person turns up at the right time.

the "really" right person will pay the real market value.

only a greenhorn would buy a car to such an asking price.
anyway...we will never come to know the final sales price as the seller will not compromise himselves to tell the final result.

a good buyer will always find the "sore point" for negotiating about the price.


and we should not forget...the car may end (in case it will get ever registered) most likely on a unpopular q-plate...which rather makes it less valuable as when it would have been built p with the donor car´s x/flow engine, registered and converted afterwards to a zetec.

Not everyone see's Qs as lower value. The only negative point in a Q is you can't stick a private plate on it. Nothing else. In fact a Q can have a positive effect as it means you only have a visible smoke test at MOT instead of having to meet the emissions requirements of the date of the registration, which can be alot more expensive if it includes CATs and things.

Only people from the dark ages when Q's were used for stolen recovered cars think a Q plate has a detrimental effect. I've owned Q plates and non Q plate kits. Makes no difference what so ever.

Q plates are totally fine if the car stays in the UK. But no good to European buyers hoping for Oldtimer registration status back home, that's why the age related plates are so important to them.

Unfortunately, if you're selling, the market values are low at the moment.
But that doesn't make it reasonable for buyers to "expect to pay" rock bottom prices for hi-spec, high build cost, cars in perfect condition, nor to expect part-built cars to be almost given away. If an individual seller want a fair price to get most of his money back, that's it, pay up or look elsewhere.
Eventually, said buyer might come across someone desperate enough to sell and get their "bargain buy".

As for kitcars having no history & no value, think we'll have to disagree there too. Today's kit car is tomorrow's affordable classic, just have to sit back & wait a while.

I know for a fact Q plates don't worry some EU people. My old Q plate kit went to someone in Portugal, he paid the asking price for that, my mates Q plate Westfield went to some German, who paid way over the odds for it too, although it was funny to my mates face when the German opened his bag and gave him a huge wad of notes there and then.

Bottom line, if the seller wants a price for it and you can't afford it then move on and find one in your price range. I don't harass Rolls Royce or Porsche sellers telling them they're charging too much.
