It would be interesting to see how you get on with building that. I'm considering megasquirt but am confused with all the options that seem to be available.
Meanwhile has anyone tried a standard Ford EEC system?

Well the latest on this side is that I've just managed a lashup that shows that it IS possible to get a standard Ford EEC-V ECU to work in a rwd kit car. Not a Stylus as it happens but that makes no difference.
The key, apart from the rather complex wiring, is to make sure you get an original ignition key to go with the ECU from the same donor car. You also need the key antenna ring which is inside the steering column of a Mondeo (Mk2 for a 2.0 Black top Zetec in my case). It's also a good idea to take the whole engine wiring harness, plus the large engine bay connector that connect up to it and the wires that go onto the key antenna.

It's not running what you would call smoothly yet but that is probably to do with a complete lack of exhaust and nothing to set idle speed either!

So far the ECU and wiring cost me 30 quid. Ok so I also spent 250 on a plenum chamber from GBS so that I can avoid bonnet bulges but that's waay cheaper than Omex etc

Watch this space.........
