Wanted: Brake Master Cylinder!

Post by Craig-Chap »

Morning all.

I went to put a seal kit in my master cylinder at the weekend, only to find it was a right old mess (full of rust, a decent lip preventing easy removal of the pistons etc  ), so I'd rather find another than rebuild the one I have.

Do any of you have the MK2 Escort master cylinder lying around if you have changed to a bias pedal box? Ideally I'm after a 19.05mm bore one, the casting marks on mine are Girling 74660038 Q105, but I am struggling to find any reference to this so I'm 100% of the original application. It has two ports pointing towards the drivers side and one pointing down.

Any help would be much appreciated as I'm supposed to be away in it next weekend!

Cheers,

Craig

It's not looking good! Every where is telling me I have no chance, and I can't even find a second hand one.

I'm supposed to be using it this weekend, so I'll clean up the one I have as best I can and see if I can get the new seals to work. Obviously if it's not 100% I won't be taking it anywhere, let alone the M69 and M1 that I should be!

Long term solution for this problem is either a change of cylinder (non-servo Fiesta Mk1, Mk2, Fiat 124) or a resleeve of my current cylinder at the best part of £100. Yay!

OK , then ring RALLY DESIGN and ask what their alternatives are --- it's a FORD orientated supplies company , especially for kitcars. BURTON :?: :?: :?:

No go for either unfortunately, both only seem to supply the single circuit cylinders for bias pedal boxes.

Only just seen this....
Possible I still have the one I took off when I converted to floor pedals in 2010.

Can't promise for definite, but highly likely its in my collection of spares.
(Tend not to bin anything that works & "might be useful", which is why the garage is full & it might take some time to find  )

Will be the weekend before I get chance for a proper look though.

That might be helpful Matt! I've just cleaned the cylinder properly prior to putting the seal kit in, and found a line of pitting along the bottom where some water must have been sat, new seals definitely aren't going to save this one!

I'm still trying to get something sorted for the weekend, but if not and you can find it let me know- thanks

Made the effort yesterday & had a proper look - did find this
(Crap phone pics, took them as I left for the train this morning)
Looks dirty, but done less than 10K miles in its life.

Took some finding, I've got boxes of crap in there which need sorting....
Not got a Zetec anymore, but seem to have boxes of cam covers, pulleys, camshafts, flywheels, coil pack brackets, coil packs, etc.
(suspect they're all the unwanted ex-donor engine bits - it 2ltr water pump that runs the wrong way, 1.8 105ps cams, etc, etc.,etc)

Hi Matt.

It does look like the right one, but I've sent mine off for resleeving!

So I don't need it, but if you are sick of tripping over it I would keep it for a spare. However it may be worth something to the MK2 Escort boys as I couldn't find one anywhere- might be worth an ask on one of their forums.

Cheers anyway Matt!
