Hi folks

Just got a first car for daughter with a non running engine on looking found the timing belt has snapped does anyone know how much damage is caused with the 1250 zetec when it snaps?
(is it some valves or much worse)

It depends how many rev's and how soon the engine was turned off once it happened. If the driver had the nowse to de - clutch fast and turn it off , maybe just valves but you've got to expect the worse. Pistons , don't think any more though.At least they'll be cheap George. It's YAMAHA so maybe not :roll:

i know a lad who had the same horrible thing happen to his little fiesta!

he did have the intelligence to dip the clutch and stop pretty soon and he only bent a few valves. however like rob said, it all depends on how fast the engine was spinning and what the driver did that really counts. i suppose the only thing to do really would be to whip the head off and have a good look!

New Belt £22.80
New Head Bolts £29
Head Gasket £30
Valves approx £8 Each

Not knowing if there is any bottom end damage the best bet may be the bottom option :(

Engine from dismantler 30 day warranty £175

i'd go with the engine! it will probably quicker to change the engine anyway than to repair the one you've got! is that a price for a complete engine with ancilliaries or just engine on its own? if its got all the bits on it too you can flog them on ebay or something like that and probably get back most of your money. people will often need throttle bodies and injectors and manifolds.

You just never know!

hope you get it sorted without too much damage to the wallet!

Quick update had a proper look at the engine and found some extra crank case breathering due to big end sized hole in block so replacement engine it is :shock:
