As i'm skint

Post by Cerberus »

And can't afford a set of wilwoods yet, and i do need to stop the car(it's frightening with current set up) i was thinking about running a remote servo, anyone done this or any reason why not :?: , i know i will have to change to a single line master cylinder but this is still a lot cheaper than wilwoods.

your brakes

If I were you , I'd get some decent pads first and put some physical pressure on them to stop , they're fine without servo , it weighs nowt . Don't bother with EBC Greenstuff though , you'll hardly notice the difference. Contact RALLY DESIGN for advice on pads for M16's if that's what you've got. They will have HAWKE Black or equivalent , don't bother with so called sport road pads.
The other thing is , you're just not used to braking without servo assistance. They will stop , it just takes your own might as opposed to the servo . Good pads will transform the braking.

I just love the Stylus but she keeps swallowing £££ !

Rob, i understand i'm not used to brakes without servo assistance, but these are particularly scary i've had both feet on the pedal pushing through the floor and nothing (nearly gone up the back of two cars and not from siily speeds either 30-40mph) so i'm just stripping the front end down in between posting this to see if i've a sticking calliper, will let you know what i find later on.

I've got standard 2.0l sierra disks and drums on my stylus, but with greenstuff pads, and braking effort is fine (even in a heavyish V8)! Easy to lock the wheels up if you try.

Is the brake pedal hard or soft? What size master cylinders do you have?
