I've gone mad

Post by Cerberus »

And ripped out the engine, flipped the front etc, can anybody advise on which fuel pump to go for as i am now running injection i've tried looking at demon tweeks online but their site hasn't been updated, the only one i could find was a weber alpha and thats over £400, so if somebody has a catalogue and would be so kind as to have a butchers for me, or if you know off the top of your head?, the other engine goes in tomorrow, will i need a swirl pot as well?

You will need a swirl pot as the tank has to pull the fuel up to the outlet on the tank.

pumps

The pump you had will fill the swirl pot(if it's a decent FACET) then an injection pump from pot to engine , like a SYTEC from TWEEKS at £120 to £128 . Not sure what pressure you require for your XE . That way you wont have to fit a new fuel line from the TANK to ENGINE as carb' sufficient fuel line wont do if you fit an in tank injection pump. Don't know where you get a figure of £400 though ? MERLIN at Castle Coombe will also sell this stuff and close to you !

Rob.
I just love the Stylus but she keeps swallowing £££ !

Hi Rob, the pump i had/have is a (don't laugh) a mechanical one run by the cam, the £400 version was a weber alpha, so it looks like i will take a trip to merlin after xmas, and just carry on fitting and making it look nice for now thanks.

Injector Pump & Swirl Pot

Post by kevp »

This is the set up I use.

18389D FUEL PUMP+SWIRL POT G3 1.6 9/92 >7/94 72.50 Add
18389D FUEL PUMP+SWIRL POT G3 1.8 SPi 11/91 >7/94 72.50 Add

18389F FUEL PUMP+SWIRL POT G3 1.8 SPi 8/94 >2/99 74.50 Add
18389F FUEL PUMP+SWIRL POT G3 1.4 & 1.6 8/94 >7/95 74.50 Add

18389J FUEL PUMP+SWIRL POT G3 16V & VR6 8/94 >12/97 76.50 Add

Current Prices from German & Swedish. This list is for VW Golf mk 3.
More than enough for most Stylus cars. Just need a lifter pump.
I run a small solid state unit but they arer not recomended as they need some back pressure.
The other option is to spend multiples of 100 £s to achieve the same.

Merry Christmas all

Another cheap option is an inline pump like this one:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... &rd=1&rd=1

The same people have others too.

If it will fuel a Bentley turbo it should cope with most things :)

Hi Phil

This is how I did mine, mounting under rear wheel arch (seemed a good idea at the time !!, but now I've thought about rear impact, maybe not... ?!?).
Rover SD1 V8 high pressure pump, Car Builder Solutions Swirl Pot, halfords fuel filter up front, retained the existing facet red top pump to fill the Swirl Pot. Ran a new steel fuel return pipe alongside the steel feed, & rubber fuel hosed the rest.
Don't forget to flare the pipe ends, or use the proper braided stuff !

Cheers

Matt

Hi Phil
you had a look at my car at Eelmoor in the pouring rain , swirl pot , high pressure fuel pump and fuel filter all mounted under front wing drivers side ,
I ran fuel pipe supply and return down top of tunnel , return feeding back down into fuel tank through fuel sender unit
have alook at the SBD MOTORSPORT web site very useful tech instructions sheets for plumbing in new system , as Matt was using one as seen in his
photo , if you want any photos I will see what I can do

cheers Andy

I thought that the Mk 3 had an in tank pump/swirl pot
The Mk1/2 GTi uses an accumulator (acts as a swirl pot) and pump which can be picked up on flea bay at reasonable prices butyou will still need a low preasure pump to feed the accumulator.

 Sorry. I think I am running a Mk2 system.

I liked the method that Bikenuts mentioned - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... &rd=1&rd=1 - But feel there is an advantage to having a swirl pot (accumulator) to eliminate tank scaveging problems whilst cornering etc.

For all your input chaps, the engine is in and turning over, tomorrow i will try and wire the loom and ECU in, as the woman will be chained to the cooker.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to Everybody.

BRAVE man Phil' , even I didn't work on my Stylus on xmas day  Apart from that day , any friend of mine who called round during the build wanting to see me got told '' He's down the shed with his BLOW UP DOLL  ''

So can we expect a sound video of engine at 7000 rpm :?:
Happy xmas :D Regards Rob.
