Front and rear tow points

Post by dern »

Hello.

Does anyone have any pictures handy as to where you've put front and rear tow points for competition use so you can be dragged out of the scenery.

Thanks very much.

Cheers,

Mark

Rob sent me some of his front webbing strap which is velcro'd up to keep it tidy. Very neat solution. I'll see if I can dig them out and post them in a bit.

It's looped round the chassis and held up onto the front bodywork by velcro.

That's great, thanks. Doesn't it damage the front bodywork when used though?

If you run it under where the reinforced area for the mount is it's probably strong enough? I've got to do a similar thing to my car this year, but I've yet to sit down with a bit of webbing and offer it up to the car.

Mark ------- when and if your car needs towing , you simply pull the strap off the velcro then it gets pulled direct from the front chassis that ity's looped around
I just love the Stylus but she keeps swallowing £££ !

Ok, cool. I'll get that sorted. Thanks.

Do you have any pictures of how you've mounted a timing strut so you can still open the flip front by any chance? Should have taken pictures of all this stuff when I saw you last year.

It's simple enough to attach a timing strut BUT if your flipfront hinges are standard then the strut and or bonnet will hit the ground if totally wide open. My bonnet will open at 90 degrees to the ground , most won't , so can't advise you without seeing the car. However ---- fitting a timing strut ======== At the top centre of the oval front opening you'll see there's plenty of fibreglass that turns in on itself towards the engine bay. Drill and rivnut that twice about 25mm's apart maybe more depending on how you make a strut holder . I then cut/made two 20x20mm ally angle pieces about 4 to 6inches long(tidy up once completed) Obviously drill a hole in each so that domehead bolts can attach them into the rivnuts(the angle being flatsides up)
Now you make the strut to MSA regs length -- width painted black , in ally or carbon fibre. Due to the angle of the fibreglass rivnuted bolts those ally pieces will point skywards ------- so you then drill through those two ally pieces and clamp your strut with nuts/bolts , making sure that the strut ends up being exactly perpendicular to the ground and correct height. Send me a PM of your mobile and I'll reply with photos Mark ok.
