The only shot of me on a track day before the smell of burning became apparent.

You could well be right, it is quite loose at the back, when I first fitted the new dampers I set it with 25mm rake, but I think the front might have settled a bit, I'll have to drop the rear a few MM. The problem is I bottom out ( something grinds) at the rear on undulating roads when traveling at speed, I'm loathe to raise the front after getting it all set how I like it.

If the rear spring rates ie. lbs is too weak for your body weight then the shock/piston rod will hit the shock body. However , if you hear it grind it's much more likely to be the propshaft touching the tunnell tubes because the higher the prop goes into the tunnell the narrower the tunnell gets. Possibly not central in the tunnell ? OR the rear tyre/s rubbing the inner body under the wheel arch. Easy to check prop and arch for rub marks .
What do you weigh in stones or kgs ? & what rear spring rates ?

I've got 220lb springs on the rear, I'm going to say this bit very quietly, it bottoms a lot more with the Mrs in the car, not that she weighs a great deal. If I get time at the weekend I'll stick the car in the air and see if I can find any obvious tell tale marks.

When it's jacked up via the rear chassis NOT the diff , put a white tippex blob on the piston rod of the shock about 10mm from the top. Lower the car , sit in then jack up again to see if it's smudged . If it's ok , go out and drive it around hard corners etc , then back home to check the white mark again. If untouched the the spring rates and lengths are adequate . So then you're looking for marks on the chassis tunnel and inner wheel arches.

I finally got the car in the air, the contact area became obvious and also quite alarming, the main culprit is part of the bracket that holds the hand brake , this is can grind and cut for clearance ( hopefully) the thing that alarmed me was the idiot that built the car mounted the bloody fuel pump in the same area and that has witness marks on it as well :o
First job will be to replace the pump and mount it in the normal area
2nd job will be to see if I can move the hand brake to the normal place in the passenger footwear.

Why the hell would anyone fit the fuel pump by the handbrake :o , that's bonkers , either behind the drivers seat back on rubber mounts or if injection right under/level with the fuel tank bottom .

New fuel pump fitted, I had to mount it quite high just to make sure I had rear axle/panhard rod clearance, it sits about 30mm below the top of the tank, which will be OK as the red top can lift over 300mm no problem. The handbrake bracket has been cut back , so now the diff has clearance as well, if think I've lowered the rear too much as the rear tyres now rub over a big hump, I can raise the back at least 10mm as I'm down to 16mm rake unloaded.
