Perspex Headlight Covers

Post by kevp »

Im trying to find a way of fixing my head light covers.
I know the correct way is to screw through some tabs previously bonded to the body. But my covers are such a bad shape (I have had to grind bits to get close to fitting), Im worried that the large gaps in some of the places is going to let to much muck in. I considered bonding on with rubberised mastic stuff. I did one but the wife tells me it looks like black eye liner on it. A shame because I thought it was a neat way of getting over the gaps & making it 100% waterproof. I used some electrical black grommet strip around the edge to smooth it off.

Can anyone offer their experiance & thoughts on the subject (not Porsche style comments). Perhaps the new units are better.

I'll try & visit Stylus the weekend if Tims accepting visitors - he may help.
Cheers Kevin

I think you're over worrying Kev' . I fitted mine by drilling tiny holes in a line to form a slot , just three around the front edge then poking a piece of half inch alloy two inches long through each slot. Left just enough , about three quarters of an inch , on the outside to drill and fix rivnuts into. Works a treat , water doesn't matter , merely remove the three little rivnuts and clean occasionally . If the edges of the covers don't seal then water goes straight through and drains . If you go to a lot of trouble sealing them and water gets in , then it's a problem.

Here's a pic' of the finished job .
