Post by Schrodinger »

Hi I'm new to the list and am considering buying a Stylus, I really want a car I can use all year round so for the winter has anybody made a hard top for the Stylus?

hello!

i have seen pictures on the old website of someone who was producing a hard top for their stylus. not sure who it was but i'm sure the pictures are on this site too.

i think even with a soft top on though most of the people who own stylus would probably say the soft top was good in the wet.

there is always the option of creating a hard top of your own too.

whatever you choose to do, there are lots of friendly stylus owners on this site who are more than willing to give you advice if you need it.

i don't think you could be dissapointed with a stylus. they're awesome!

cheers for now! :D

Hello Keith,
Several guys use a well made soft top and find them great. Brian Bevis , in particular , drives his to work on a daily basis wet or dry. Send him a private message off this site and I'm sure he'll tell you his oppinion . He's built his Stylus very much to be used all the time not just for summer fun. Not sure whether it was a '' kit '' soft top or purpose made locally . The name Trevor comes to mind , a local upholsterer , maybe he did it.

I bought my engine and mod's from up your way -- Paul Dunnell engines ! Stowmarket.
Regards , Rob.
I just love the Stylus but she keeps swallowing £££ !

Keith, under the section "Cars"->"Members and their cars"->"Lee Davies" will show you Jeremy Baine Powells old car and he developed a hardtop a few years back. Pictures are the page there. Gives you a good idea about a hardtop.

When I get to the point that I can make a hardtop, I will. But think this will take more than a year if I look at my progression.

Somewhere next week I get my escort zetec sump and water pump. Maybe even a 1.8CVH starter motor. And hope to move the engine to my new house in september.

Any idea how I might contact Lee as I can't see him on the list of members?

I don't have any details about Lee Davies.

Don't think he's a forum member. There's still a lot of clubstylus members that are not member on the forum.

It just struck me that contacting Jerry(hard top project)might be the way to contact or get info on the hardtop. Jerry is listed on this site so you could send him a private message via jezbp / site name.

Rob(hope that helps)

Thats a shame. I've ordered a hood to windscreen mould from Tim which I'm going to initially use to make a splash top (like a hood but without sides or back), the plan over winter will be to attempt a hard top using it....

Jeremy was quite a long way off a "proper" hard top though.

It's an idea thats been floating around as long as I've had my car (1999).

One of the reasons I ordered a Stylus was because Pete was going to produce a retro fit Hard Top.

Rob, do you know if Tim is going to develop one or maybe a removable GT type top. Thats if the GT idea gets going.

Your right , it's the GT idea that Tim's intending to develope . Not likely to be soon though.

If there's no hard-top available by the time my car get's finished, I will also attempt to make a hardtop.

BTW, what do you mean by a GT type hardtop?
