I stumped, got the ECU back from Weber fitted it yesterday and no spark pulled the loom back out of the car re-read instructions put it back together and no spark, now this is whats happening, turn ignition on injectors click and coil fires a spark(is this just the brain setting itself?) anyway crank the engine over and there is no spark, i've just changed the crank sensor and all connections are present and correct(or not)any ideas as i am jarred off now.

Cheers Alex, tried all of that still no spark whilst cranking, what i don't understand is why its chucking out a spark when you turn the ignition on, it varies from 1 to 12 sparks so something has to be shorting out in the loom i will have to ring Weber again and price up a loom

Kev the crank sensor is showing 6volts and pulsing.kevp wrote:Is the crank sensor working. If the ECU dosent see the engine turning over it wont spark.
Is the Rev counter fed from the ECU? Dose it move while turning over?
Do you have a hook up to a Laptop. This will enable you to trigger the Injectors & Ignition Coils without running the car.
Its sparking when you turn the ignition on between 1 and 12 times and not when cranking
No the rev counter is not fed from the ECU(its broken anyway)
I could hook up a laptop but Weber wont supply any software.
So my conclusion so far is there must be a short somewhere in the loom.
But i am open to suggestions

ECU
Spoke to Weber yesterday and they are stumped, its like a fluctuating power source the relays are kicking in and out which shouldn't be happening and the fuel pump is running all the time(it should run/prime then stop) the battery is showing 14.4 volts and cranking the engine over with no problem, all the connections are good including earth.
Alex is coming over today to have a look as well so will let you know what happens

So i thought i would investigate the old loom, as suggested i would use a pair of scissors to remove the somewhat stubborn outer casing - just so i could say i found the fault, but like a complete ninkumpoop i have managed to slice my thumb about an inch long and deep(even managed to hit the bone not bad eh) so have just been to A+E and they have glued me back together (litrerally)
So today i have learnt not to be nosey and just buy a new loom
Thanks for popping round Alex, did you have a good game? i will get you to take me out one day.

bloody hell fella!
Thinking further about it, it is probably worth striping the old loom to find the fault, as it will allow you to work out what caused it in the first place and by temporarily fixing it to test the system without risking damage to a new loom.
ps got spanked, 6 tries to one, lost count on the conversions
