Rust ?

Post by stylussprinter »

Hello all ,
In renovating the Stylus I recently bought , one of the jobs to be done is chassis cleaning and rust removal/prevention etc. The cleaning rust off bit's just bloody hard dirty graft but the 'what to put on it' choice is vast  Looked at various products but was recently recomended Bilthamber Laboratories products. The one that suits my application is HYDRATE 80 . I can say I'm impressed by the spec' and if you do the preparation well it leaves a really tidy surface to paint over. I picked a tatty old 'post rammer' that had rusted over to try before starting on the car and it did a smooth looking finish just right for hammeriting over. After wire brushing you simply put a light coat on , in a scrubbing motion then brush one way to finish. Thirty minutes later , a second light coat the opposite way. Leave it as is or paint apparently.
It comes at the top of all tests regarding rust problems/prevention.
Hopefully you haven't got rust BUT  it's good stuff if you do.
Rob.

i use jenolite too!

i'm able to get it by the bucketload from work. only thing with it is, is that you have to at least prime the surface straight after cleaning off the jenolite jelly or you get surface corrosion in no time at all!

good stuff though.

my god father did his triumph shell and all the parts in jenolite over 20 years ago when he restored it. there is still no rust that has come through yet!

washing off

Post by stylussprinter »

Thing is with this stuff is there's no washing off the Hydrate 80 . It becomes the paintable surface. I've also used jenolite in the past but decided on this because it came top in all relevant tests.
