Shed (project stylus) for sale!!

Post by sostylus »

Hi all, after the initial flurry of emails regarding the 'project' Stylus (see the thread 'I bought a shed...' in the General forum. I have just lost my garage  and also work dictating no time (or skill) to do the work myself. Better for me to buy a completed car when I have a garage again in June/July. So, decided to sell the project on.

Its an early Stylus that never made it to SVA (though very close a number of years ago), fitted with a Fiat twin cam, seats, dash (not secure but dials in and wired up), basically everything done... a complete car.
Now the reality....its been sat for years under a tarpaulin and needs at least the following:
Wiring completely re-done - did all work but its a birds nest (fire hazzard).
New light surrounds
New engine mount.
Engine was working well but no battery at the moment and prob needs a re-build/service
Some of the fibre-glassing in rear cockpit is very ugly
May even be best to take body off, re-furb components & re fit the body
Exhaust fitted
Adjustable shocks - look OK
Body is intact and all in place but needs a re-spray (small graze through gell coat on front edge of bonnet, size of a 50p)
Doors fitted & trimmed (ugly trim)
brakes are seized as its been sat for years but did move when temporarily freed)
It has a new soft top but no frame
Has the roll hoop fitted
Gear lever seems very far forward but engine seems mounted in the correct place
Chassis seems OK

I think you get the picture guys!
If anyone fancies a project that has all the bits, for not a lot of money at all (much much less than the sum of the components) then PM me an offer, ask me, I wont be offended or bite.. Im realistic!
Thought Id give you guys first shot and then on Ebay next week if no interest/takers.

I would love this on the road and if i had the time/garage/skills it would be a very low cost entrance to ownership.

I'll try and get some pics at weekend - not wanted to get the covers off at the mo as its dry under there and wet outside.

Thanks
Stephen

Further info

Received a message to ask if I wanted car 'removed' for free :x , its not scrap and will make someone with the skills to rebuild a great car! I was quoted approx £3500 parts & labour by a builder/mechanic to get to a good state, on the road and through SVA and thats on a commercial basis with the profit built in (not inc respray). So as a DIY job......should be much lower!
I decided if I was going this route though I would like a new engine at the same time (Zetec 1.8/2.0 or even 2ltr Vauxhall) with all the associated bits and costs (manifolds, carbs/ecu, exhaust, mounts, fitting, wiring, sump, clutch etc etc) - so it would have worked out rather more for me as relying on others for labour & parts supply

As an indication, Im looking for £Hundreds not £Thousands

Thanks guys

Thanks Phil,

It doesnt look too bad on a nice sunny day and in photos, almost had second thoughts when I looked at the pics :( . Im hoping it goes to someone on the forum rather than me having to contend with ebay.
I dont think my price expectations are silly - I'm looking for upper £hundreds but happy to listen to offers for a 'no fuss' sale from this forum... It is what it is; a project with all of the bits for a competent builder to make their own and I think the previous description is accurate.

The twin webber carbs are also rather nice!

In answer to the questions about it running:
It has no battery in it and Im not sure how long since it last ran properly so fluids, petrol plugs/points, wiring condition need to be checked before its attempted. If its of interest.. SSC Tim was last person to run it and was 'suprised' at how well the engine ran, considering he was rightly not so complimentary about some of the rest e.g. the wiring.

Thanks for the initial inquiries, i'll keep you updated (unless the final purchaser wishes to remain anonymous!).

If your not desperate for cash rather than give it away i would be tempted to keep it until you have a garage, surely its worth putting some fresh petrol through it and trying to start it, might give you some inspiration or at least you can sell it as a running car, Ebay will be a pain with a non runner all those stupid questions
Just my thoughts i know what i would do

Just a quickie suggestion if you are resigned to selling...try Pistonheads classifieds before eBay... it's free and it has all sorts of enthusiasts logging on...you never know... :D

I agree that Pistonheads maybe a good choice - sold my Crossfire (dont ask) and a track 944 on there. I'll give it to next week as I have some interest from here and maybe some viewings at w/end then Pistonheads & possibly the dreaded Bay!

I wouldnt mind keeping it but really cant see me having the time to touch it for quite a while (work commitments) so it really needs to go. Im not going to give it away though thankfully didnt shell out too much for it in the first place, hence my reasonable price! :)

£500!?

Post by sostylus »

Hi all - just returned from a spell away with work and after taking a deposit on the 'project' prior to going, the buyer has changed plans (bought a completed Sylva Pheonix) and the car is still with me :x but so is the deposit :)

So.... If anyone on here wants it, then the first person to turn up with a trailer and something very close to £500 can have it! I reckon that this is a bit of a bargain for someone with some know how - and avoids me going the Ebay route with the hassles that this entails.

Any interest.... :?:

Interest at new price?!

Post by sostylus »

Hi

3-4 people off this site expressed an interested but none came to view - maybe price, time, etc..! I know I have had very liittle opportunity to follow up anything apart from work!

Perhapse the new price will prove attractive; if it doesnt go on here in the week then I'll pursue other options - its not the biggest deal in the world so no worries either way.

Provisionally sold

Post by sostylus »

Thanks for the interest all, car is provisionally sold via this site (if plan goes ahead I think you'll be seeing it smart & complete in the future).
Also have 2 reserves, also via this site :)
Hope to be back with a Stylus before too long!
