Having just had my first mot, yes the car is over 3years old. My very nice mot man gave me a Advisory notice, he could have failed it, with the play on the lower front suspension bushes. Any one know where I can get a replacement set and what the correct part number should be?
7,200 miles on the clock, does this seem like these bushes should have gone in that time?

Re: Poly bushes
I can't be certain why yours might be worn so soon but it could be that the poly's extend behond the inner metal tube i.e. weren't trimmed at fitting and/or the bolts are not tight enough to grip the metal tube so that they work as intended . My car's done nearly 7000 hard miles mostly on track and the poly's are fine . I've got a Stylus here now that I'm renovating which needs many new bits but not poly's . It's 2001 and 17,000 miles.pfhc wrote:Having just had my first mot, yes the car is over 3years old. If the bolts are not tight then the pick up 's will wear too , allowing slop . Just chatting to Andy B. and his car's 1998 and all his poly's are o.k.
SSC Tim's the place to get them , then there's no hastle over correct sizes Peter.
Rob.
I just love the Stylus but she keeps swallowing £££ !

under normal road use and even most track use a poly bush of the sort and composition fitted to the stylus should last between 8 to 10 times as long as a normal metalastic bush. sounds like they weren't fitted correctly. may be worth checking the hole size in the brackets on the chassis for wear while you've got the bushes out!

wear /where ?
Peter , now I'm confused (no change there then ) Why did the mot guy detect play in the lower wishbone bushes --------- loose springs cause no play and are only apparent if the car's jacked up . My rear springs are loose if the car's jacked up , simply because I lowered the car behond the open spring length -------- not a problem unless you go over speed bumps at 60mph I think your guy was just trying to be ' knowledgeable ' and looking for troublepfhc wrote:Rob
Turned out no to be the bushes. With the car jacked up and no weight on the front wheels, there was a couple o mm's of slack between the spring seat and the spring. Adjusting the spring seat on the damper by a turn stopped the movement.
Peter
Anyway , you're happy you've got the mot Rob.
