Heater

Who here runs a hot air heater from the exhaust manifold? We are doing this on ours, and wondered who else had done it and set it out. I know David Jackson has it on his.

no heater in mine! sorry. i just wear a very thick jacket and a hat. did me fine in the ice this winter for about 50 miles on the way to work!

I've gone for comfort too, but I have a waterheater, not the lghtest but plumbs in neatly, is an exhaust heater lighter?

the exhaust heater is a bit of flexible tubing and a fan with some vents on the end!
Going to give it a go on my road car to see what kind of heat we will get off the manifold first. shame the water heaters are so big and bulky! a thick flying jacket might be the best option!

Don't think you'll need the fan . My father made one to fit his '' RILEY KESTREL '' which simply boxed around the manifold and tubed in to the car with a shutter operated by a cable. It was really hot once on your way. Then my VW Beetle also had it from the design in the first place and that got pretty warm --- no fan assist though.

you could always make your own heater matrix by using the element from an oil cooler and creating an aluminium duct to guide the air into a pipe. then have a very small radiator fan on the oil cooler matrix.

this way you could put it wherever you decided was best and it would be much lighter than a normal heater!

just a crazy thought!

good point! or could use a mini heater matrix as they are very small too, then might aswell use the mini heater lol!
An electric heater would be ideal, but there seems to be nothing decent on the market really!

Actually no. The matrix is the best bit of a Mini heater. I bought an aftermarket matrix (all alloy and plastic) to repair a Mini heater from a scrappy but decided to use just the matrix and made a alloy box which is much much lighter and smaller than the Mini box. A fan mounted in the nearside wing will provide the puff eventually.
