propshaft?

Post by Werner Van Loock »

What propshaft do I need to be modified. I'm having a english live axle and a Type9.

I know there's 2 types of escort mk2 prop shaft, a 1piece and a 2 piece prop shaft

Does it matter wich one I buy or do I need a sierra?

I didn't modify one at all , simply took the measurements I was asked for along with the flange pattern of the English diff nose and got it made up with new u/j's . Cost me £200 and it's still there without problems -- just grease them before I go on track . It'll only be around 21 inches so if you're having one modified go for the one piece. Probably cost the same so you might as well have new and feel safe , the old one will have knackered u/j's anyway which is the greatest cost.

Rob.(I know of a local guy to me -- Luton)

it is a specially made prop. I would highly advise NOT chopping up an existing prop and re-welding it etc!
If you call Tim or e-mail, he will tell you the mesasurment he needs, between the box output and the diff flange i believe, he will then have one made for you.

You will probally be able to find a prop maker where you are if not anyway, might be cheaper as it might cost a bit to post it over!

Buy a New One

Post by whiterabbit »

I'm building on a tight budget, but couldnt find anyone to cut'n'shut a Sierra prop. I agree with the other posts, take the hit and buy new. Just tell the makers (who advertise in the mags). what the box and diff are, and the face to face dimension and it turns up on your doorstep and frightens the wife in 3 days. Plus they have real grease nipples on as well, not 'sealed till death' bearings !

Steve.
We're - flat - broke, but hey! we do it in Stylus!

Having seen (twice on the same day) what happens to a car when the propshaft lets go this is definately one part of the car you want made properly by someone who knows what they're doing.

Unless you dont mind losing a leg.

I cut and shut for mine but just for moving in and out the garage, just found a prop company local how will build for £125 all new parts (mine needs a sliding joint all for this price) and if you have any ends he will use these and charge less. Drop of in morning and collect that afternoon. :D

Ive just read an advert for Reco-prop (UK) ltd who advertise a worldwide mail order service.
Ive never used them so have no idea what they are like but could be worth a try.

That's who altered my latest prop' and there's been no trouble with it. They didn't make the original but are close to me and have a background in motorsport or the boss has. I changed the diff' nose a couple of years back so just needed a new flange/uj . Charged me £40 cash in hand and did it while I ate fish/chips(his recommendation :!: )
