Why

Post by Cerberus »

Don't we start a page with our experiances of sourcing parts, after reading the gauges topic it seems people are struggling/paying too much for bits and bobs, it will also be good for someone still at build stage.
we can list brakes, tyres, even switch gear etc just post a link under a heading. what do you recon

good idea that man!

not only will this help for builders but also for people looking for spares for their worn out bits and also for people wishing to upgrade.

look forward to seeing this!

I think this will need Werners help, but this is what i was thinking you will have a heading then the best deals and your area, then you put in your feedback on what you have bought.

Heres roughly what is was thinking

BRAKES

JONS BRAKE SERVICES

what you purchased/price, I purchased wilwood what evers with a set of XXXX pads

AREA: BRISTOL/BATH
Contact details: tel/web address etc

FEEDBACK

I should have used bigger rotors for my application or smaller ones and the callipers could do with a bigger surface area and the XXXX pads i'm using are no good for fast road use and suffer with bad fade.

Jon is a top bloke to deal with and will bend over backwards to help or jon is a twat steer clear

Then you carry on with

TYRES

ELECTRICAL
AND SO ON

should be good for those nice bits you can never source and save ages trawling the interweb.

It will take a while but if everybody does a bit we should end up with a comprehensive list for most of the country, i was struggling to find ABS plastic sheets a polypropelene it took me ages to find a supplier.
This is just a rough idea and perhaps it's too ambitious.

Any thoughts :?:

I like it and I'm happy to add:

ECU

Weber: great product, shit support, only "approved" dealers have the software and will not share

VEMS: great product, fantastic support, purchased from rob@vems.co.uk website vems.co.uk
(I should be on commission for recommending them  , although it was Werner who pointed me in their direction)

Springs

Merlin Motorsport (castle combe) usually caries a very good selection at sensible prices

Harnesses

Luke aero-style release will pass SVA and are EC approved, although don't deal with Luke direct as service sucks.

Custom inlet manifold

Boggbros.co.uk exceptional quality but when they say 8 week wait they mean 10-12 :(

Odds and sods

Car builder solutions http://www.nfauto.co.uk/cbs_products_new.htm
Heater take off, wiring, heat reflective matting (DO FIT TO FOOTWELL AND SILL DURING ASSEMBLY, it’s a real PITA once fully built), they also stock high temp contact adhesive, I haven’t found anywhere else that sells it (Evo-stick fails when it gets warm).

To add my personal recommendation, Malvern Rebore, Unit 4 Spring Lane North, Malvern Worcs.

Old fashioned engine shop, excellent service and old fashioned prices.

Steve.

I think the easiest thing to use is a blog with a general user login known to all people that need to put somehting up there.

I'll sort something out.
