Got me deep sockets and big torx bits and the engine is stripped down now.
Now it's down to cleaning, but need inlet and outletcovers first.
Looks like the previous owner was a bit sloppy topping up engine oil. From the oil filler cap downwards the egnine is covered in oil.
Only thing I'm a bit worried about whatt I found behind the flywheel. Could it be oil from the spills or is a crankseal leaking?
And what do I have to do with the crankcase breather hole?
Got busy this weekend

oil ?
Looking at the surrounding muck/oil , I would have expected a clean run at the bottom if the seal was gone BUT personally I'd replace it as a matter of course bearing in mind what a big job it'll be if you discover a leak once the engine's bolted to the box and running in the car . The breather will be fine on the original after it's cleaned in/out but pipe the vent high up (to head height - just through the coil pack mount will do ) before dropping it down to a container(with breather holes). I then piped the cam vent to the same container.
Both these (breather / oil seal ) can be sourced from RACELINE or DUNNELL or if you've the FORD dealer that doesn't want to know the reg' of the car before he can give you a part , on your doorstep's quicker
Great to see you're at it now . Regards Rob.

Got busy again today.
Question though. There seems to be a space of 2cm between the clutch release bearing and the fingers of the cluthplate. How much should this be on a Zetec-type 9 combo?
And how much should the travel be of the lever be min-max wise?
I was thinking of making a spacer, but then I need to know if it's ok. When I completely compress the lever (using glue wrench or whatever it's called), then it does disengage, but will it be enough?
I know you're also not supposed to be able to overengage the lever as then stuff could get stuck then.

Can't really say Werner because when I built mine I simply ordered an appropriate flywheel / clutch combination from Raceline which they fitted/balanced complete with bearing. Then just fitted it not even thinking about gaps , just assumed Raceline supplied the correct bits to do the job. Give Pete at Raceline a ring , he's very helpful.

Re : Release Bearing problem !
Hi Werner
We used (dad's car not mine) a Sierra Diesel release bearing which is approx 5mm longer than the standard one, works a treat !
I think it was QH (Quiton Hazel) part CCT133. This was a perfect fit when using a Mondeo 1800 flywheel, pressure plate and cover with a Sierra release arm.
Hope this helps !
