Silencers
I'm using an ex-Caterham side pipe, non-repackable.
Think its 5", but its also long, the full lenght of the sill.
Onto a Fisher mild steel manifold 2" input, 2" outlet.
Nice and quiet for my basically STD 2ltr Zetec, but will need swapping for a better spec engine.
I chopped out the GRP around it to improve air-flow/cooling, very simple to do, & a lot easier to take on & off if needed..
Are you wanting to keep it all tucked inside, & keep the sill in place ??

in sill
There's no way I would fit an in sill silenser to a ' classic ' unless the sill is removed. Far too hot and risky. Definately don't wrap it either. Make the hole a nice attractive oval leaving a good 20mm gap all round then you'll get no problems. My cut below the door sill is 50mm below then no f/glass at all from under the silenser to the alloy ledge jutting from the chassis. An expandamet cover looks quite smart if you don't want to have it bulging out like mine does.
I just love the Stylus but she keeps swallowing £££ !

we were going to do an in-sill type silencer yes!
so do you reccomend just putting a big oval in, a similar size to the silencer then?
ive been in a classic with a sill silencer and it did get quite hot (melted his carpet in places)
we have put the reflective matting on the chassis and the sill to help matters anyway.

If yours is an RT you wont need to BUT if it's a classic , I'd cut the f/glass from above the silenser right out to the chassis plus give plenty of space at each end. Make sure loads of air can get into the sill from the front without retriction OR your oval cut out will do nothing. Drill out 3 or 4 inch holes under the manifold area f/glass . It's very wide there and 3 , 4 or 5 holes wont be seen from the side view. If it's worth the journey to look at mine up close , you're welcome to come.Pete&Matt wrote:we were going to do an in-sill type silencer yes!

I'd still advise drilling out holes from the underside while the exhaust isn't in the sill, it's a sod of a job afterwards + it doesn't show if you get it right.Pete&Matt wrote:£190 + VAt and £12 postage
it is a little expensive, but.....its a smaller diameter and so i think you will probally get away with not having to put air vents into the body around the silencer??

Was it you who was after a higher rollbar Alex I have a single , driver only high rollbar that Tim used to run on the RT with a forward diagonal into the passenger footwell left corner. If it interests you let me know and I'll photo it and post it here.
