pedal boxes and balance bars

Post by PeteC »

I've got the modified escort pedal box, but was planning a change to a floor mounted setup with a brake balance bar. The car will be road and track so must pass S.V.A. and I was hoping the enlightened out there would share their knowledge and thoughts with me! What has been used in the past? what can Tim at SSC offer? etc etc...

In the past , most have opted for the escort but since Tim took over it's always been an option to have floor pedal set. That's what the demo RT has and I've just ordered the same.

For SVA the balance bar must be locked usually drilled and pinned.

Tim can supply the floor mounted pedal box, pedals, cylinders etc. Not sure on price as ours came with the chassis.
Its a very good setup though and well worth it in my opinion.

its rolling, inner body is nearly on, just got to seal it and put the rivets in!
engine and box are in, got a few things to sort out then it can come out again to do the body! just ordered all the door catches, lights, fuel filler, boot locks from Tim, so we are getting there!
Most of the electrics are done too!

there are 2 options when using the balance bar. the first is to weld a locknut onto the bar so you can't adjust it, the other is to use a roll pin.

the roll pin is best as it is not as permanent as welding. remember though, you have to have a 70/30 split bias for sva test and you may not be allowed to adjust on the day depending on where you take it. if you wind the bar all the way to the right as i did, this was just right and this is also what tim suggests.

do that and drill a small hole and use the smallest roll pin you can find and then just knock it out again after sva!

hope that helps a bit!

I've got the floor mounted pedals and really rate them, for the SVA I used a roll pin, but only put it in 1/2 way incase I needed to adjust. SVA centers are a bit funny about brake adjustment on the day and won't (arn't supposed to) let you move anything, if there is adjustment with the balance bar locked they will test at both ends of the travel.

He's still trading, but recovering from meningitis at the moment. Best is to leave a message on his phone and he's made the promise apparently to call everyone back, could try email too, but I guess after 4 weeks hospital that he'll have a massive mailbox to go through.
