Boot Panel Fitment

Post by Pete&Matt »

Has anyone fitted the boot lid like this, with the pieces of alloy?

Image

If so, does it leak when it rains and fill the boot up? I can see that it will, even with the seal, as you will need to cut it away to alloy the alloy strip to lay flat. This is the way Tim told us to do it, but am worried about leakage!

What have others done in the past? Are there any small hinges about?

Cheers

Thats how mine is fitted with no seal, and yes i does leak (not much) but i just put that down to not fitting the rubber seal.

The only difference i can see is the lip on mine is not cut as low as yours.

the one in the picture i put up, is a car Tim was building when we last visited. We do plan on using the boot and also are not worried about being caught out in the rain, so dont want it to leak! But.....if yours only leaks a little with no seal, then a seal should stop it!

If you put a soft seal along the front of the bootlid instead of under it , you'll have no problems. Failing that you can have my hinges and I'll slot fit mine like yours. I was going to do it anyway but didn't get round to it.

You could use Hillman Imp external chrome hinges, still available from Europa or Merlin

Hey Rob,

Why don't you sell your hinges to Matt&Pete and loose some extra weight? :D
