What seats???

Post by PeteC »

As the subject line say!!
I am planning on my Stylus being a road car with a track day/sprint now and again so am looking for comfort as well as low weight and support. What was Tim or the likes of Fisher offering? I have seen some "Roadster" seats in some mags designed for "narrow bodied kits", that I like the look of, but thought I would ask what you all have first.

You'd be amazed how comfortable my f/glass bucket racing seat is even without padding. £90 from one of the 7 type kit companies at Exeter 3 years ago.

The fibreglass seats in mine are comfy enough with no padding, depending on how tall you are you may have trouble with padding, when i tried Alex's car my line of vision was inline with the top of his screen i think he has changed his seats now :?:

Thanks Rob and Phil, it seems you are the only people with seats in there cars!!! Anybody else???
I must admit the race seats do look damn good, was just a little worried about distance/comfort, but in there favour is cost, weight, looks and they are waterproof!!

The reason they're comfy is that they're body shaped and hold you so the padding's not needed really

Mine has what I think are the donor vehicles seats re-upholstered in vinyl.
They're confy enough for short journeys but I get thrown about a lot when thrashing the car and they make the drving position too high.
If I sit comfortably I have the top of the windscreen in the middle of my eyeline and if the roof's on I have to slouch to not have my head holding to roof up :)

Triton on locostbuilders has a good reputation - I'd buy some if I knew they'd fit my fat backside ( all 16.5 stone of me)

Better late than never, I took that trip to Southport and spoke to Keith of J K Compoites.com, a very helpful man and a petrol head as well! Took a template of the floor from the stylus on a piece of wall paper and Keith showed me how much room was available by placing one of his seats on top. I ordered two sizes, 380mm for the drivers seat (to go on runners) and 400mm for the passenger (which will be fixed). One week later I went back to collect my seats with the velcro attached upholstery. I am now a very happy bunny and would recommend them for their quality product and friendly service :D
Keith and Jordan can be contacted via web site or tel:-01704 569730

Can't find the lead for my camera so I can't upload any pics at the moment, but the ones shown on JKcomposites web site labelled "sevens dimension", the ones with the horizontal stripes are the ones I went for. The only difference is that they now mould a second skin on to the base/lumbar area with 8mm threads for added support for seat runners.

I didn't use seat runners , it just takes up space that you've been trying to lose (lower/seat  ) Bolt it in with spacers to keep the bulge of the seat pan off the floor
Sit in the car with a plank or polyurethane the right thickness behind the seat till you find the ideal position. Finally Sikaflex a spacer on the back of the seat , level with the boot chassis cross member to stop flex
Unless of course you intend others to be able to drive :?: Anyone who drives mine has to be my height or put up with it
