Which starter motor?
firstly hi - first post - i did a starter motor comparison when i was searching for mine - 1.8 / type 9 / raceline sump...
not an easy job to find a starter as so many people give incorrect info.. so i made a comparison chart.. might help..
i used the FRS541 in the end with a slight bit of grinding to the sump it fitted just..

Re: Which starter motor?
Thanks, does anyone know if the 14mm spacer is correct?
It would broaden the list a bit. Having serious problems fetching a LRS707zetecinside.com wrote:Starter motors are pretty straightforward as one from a Ford CVH engine (Lucas part number LRS707) will bolt straight on. You can also use one from a Pinto engine, although it will need a 14mm spacer between it and the engine to give the correct pinion throw.

Re: Which starter motor?
eh? I thought most fitted.
I started with a tranny van one and 12mm spacer, then progressed to a sierra one (no spacer required) when that one gave up I progressed to one off a fwd fiesta!(cost £5 ) fitted perfectly, like you, raceline sump and type 9 and Zetec.

Re: Which starter motor?
The CVH Sierra one fitted on my Cat/Zetec/Type 9 with a Scholar modified sump no problem.
IIRC it is also the same as the DOHC Sierra starter as well.
BTW LRS indicates a Lucas unit (Lucas Rotating Electrics Starter) and I don't know if they are available in Holland. Lucas is now LSUK

Brise do a starter for Zetec on T9 - 891410AXG listed at £205 though
I have a Brise unit in mine. It has the right gearing for the job, unlike the standard Ford units I tried (no good if the car didnt start 1st time or the battery was low). It was V1014 I think & did come with a spacer, at £138.
Still a lot more £ than a recon or 2nd hand Ford unit but I recommend them.

Re: Which starter motor?
I recently bought a geared 1.4 kw starter to fit the type 9 bellhousing/zetec for £130 new. The address is posted in LINKS.
I just love the Stylus but she keeps swallowing £££ !
