Now I've done 3 events quite close together in 2008 so far , I have worked out the car's fuel mileage more accurately. First time out last year it appeared to be using 2lts per mile
The slightly tricky bit is that quite a lot of time is spent warming the engine so's not to damage it when flying off the start line before each timed run
also you can be in a line of cars waiting with engine running , perhaps 10 or 20 cars long , moving up only every minute
BUT ----- having measured a specific amount of fuel into the tank each time I return from the track into the paddock -------- 8mpg seems to be the figure
Having a 2.5 gallon tank means that on a big track like Goodwood , if it's a test day , I'd be taking a big risk with the pump if I did more than 8 laps . In theory there'd be enough fuel for 1/2 a mile when I came in after the 8 laps
So the safe MAX would be 6 laps , that's normally enough at Goodwood to need a break
(if Im carrying a passenger anyway
)
