Under flip front bonnet paint

Post by Nissanman »

I need to paint the underside of my bonnet (big flip front) and want to do it matt black. I will need to brush it on but am not sure what type of paint to use and if I need an undercoat.

Well you may be surprised to know that the best thing to use is ' blackboard ' black from your iron mongers . Don't need undercoat , simply go over it twice  cheap as chips  I've used it on my machinery for years and on wrought iron ornamental pieces. Behind the headlight covers and under the arches on the Stylus. Also on the cooler end of the exhaust when it ran under the chassis , stays on ages.
I just love the Stylus but she keeps swallowing £££ !

I thought the underseal would be heavy - might just use that under the arches to stop any staring...

Blackboard black eh???? I shall pop along to my local old-school iron mongers.....

Cheers

I would try silver , black absorbs heat and over time may effect fibreglass. An acrylic/oil based paint are ok , key the fibreglass with a scotchpad or P120/P240 sandpaper.
