V8 Stylus

How many owners have V8s in their cars and are any of them in East Anglia?

I am looking at a part built car and would like to have a look at a local car before travelling some distance to look at the part built.

I can only go on people that bother to join the SSR register or this forum BUT it looks like no one has a V8 Stylus in your area , however , there are some owners of Stylus's within an hour of you listed on the SSR website ----------

There could be others but without the full sales list since 1996 (J.Phillips sold to Pete Powell) it's hard to know . That's why it would be such a good thing if every Stylus owner and or builder , was registered on this website . Sadly they aren't. Must talk to Tim SSC and see if he has a contact list for all sales before he bought the business then they could be contacted to ask if they will register on this site.
If we had around 160 plus members the info swap would be great plus all would know what was going on regarding STYLUS'S , socially , modification upgrades , motorsport etc etc.

Rob.(takes me 2 hrs in my 4x4 to Dunnell at Stowmarket from Aston clinton -- 15 miles west of M25 J20 , if you want to look at mine ?)

I am building a V8 but unfortantly no where near you (Scotland). I bought the chassis for the pinto and type 9 gearbox and later changed my mind to convert to a V8, the only real difference has been the moving back of the pedal box ass I'm 6 foot and still fit in it and I have used the Richfield seats which are not the thinest seats. The tunnel had to be widened to take the gearbox. To be fair if you have had a look at a Stylus already there isn't a huge difference just a little snugger to sit in.

PS as to Robs comment it would be good if a lot more owners would join up to this forum as the advice from it is invaluable to a builder and finished owner who has a problem or wants to modify something especially if someone has already done it.

Had hoped to finish this summer but had list of disasters around the house which have cost a small fortune so next spring hope to finish.

The garage is a tight squeeze and needing cleaned out.

Injected and I made a plenuem chamber for it to drop the height down with the air entering from the rear with a BMW throttle body

I also fitted a electric water pump as I could not get a P6 front cover when I fitted in the car but I will be able to let the pump to run on after shut down stopping heat soak.

Keith, I believe that Neville Powell at Liphook Hants used to make the V8 chassis at one time. He did some work on my V8. From memory, I think the chassis may have been beefed up a bit with thicker tubing, and he modified the design to give more clearance around the gearbox. He also lowered the engine and moved it back in the car by 3". It might be worth you speaking to him if you are after one. He weighed my car, and the weights were LF 199 RF 192 LR 185 RR 189 = 766 kilos. Not bad for a small car with a big V8 in it. It feels perfectly balanced and I wouldn't move anything. The foot well for the passenger is a little short, and you do need pixie shoes to drive it, as the pedal box is small. With the standard roll over bar (1998 build) the seats wouldn't move right back, so I had a new bar fitted to the original mounting points, which curves out just above the mounting points and allows full travel of the seats + a perfect driving position. If any pics of different parts of the car would help you, please let me know - must get the car out tonight - I warm it up and then take it on to a local dual carriageway, with a beaming smile by the time I've been down the slip road!!!!

I love the V8...best car I've ever owned, but as I only need a 2 seater now, rather than a family car, a stylus will be my main transport, and the V8 would be a bit juicy after a diesel. If I can't get a roofing contractor in and extend my garage quickly, there could be a V8 for sale soon.

I have spoken to Neville and I am waiting to hear from him regarding a V8 that he has for sale

Yes he has one that was started by John Rockey, and I think Neville supplied the engine to John. It has a live axle (different from my IRS) and has the engine and floor lower.....should be very nice.

I've got a V8, but nowhere near East Anglia - South Wales in fact!

Got the kit in 2002, took 3 years to build. Now been on the road since April 2005. The chassis was built around my engine block and gearbox by Peter Powell at SSC. It's a pretty stock 3.5l with a four barrel edelbrock carb, vitesse pistons and valves, and tubular manifolds. The pedal box is a little narrow, but I can manage it even with normal sized shoes!

I tried but can't get the building work needed to house my V8 and the new kit done in time, and there are waiting lists for garages around here, so the V8 will be advertised today. May be toyless for a while

Ooooh , that's sad

, you'll miss it like hell ---- on the other hand it'll give you the funds to put a stonking engine

into the new one . That'll make you build it faster

All the good builders and roofers are booked up for months, and every time I do some more (took this week off) the job gets bigger. Yes, the V8 Stylus is the by far the most fun car I've owned out of 54 now (I think) and I kept it the longest too. There is a guy who wants it but can't sell his rally car.

I want a car that can be used all year round as a daily driver, hence me selling my Tiger Cat, and want to do at least some of the build my self. I don't really want the V8 as I can't immagine that it will be very ecconomical and my concerns were more around the space in the cockpit & footwell, hence looking for a V8 in East Anglia that I could go and at least sit in for size.
