I signed up here and on the sylva google group to find some information on a prospective purchase in the new year- The old posts are very informative but i was begining to wonder if the board was still live- until i noticed a new post on windscreen rubbers! Whey, it lives!

I thought i`d say hello, i`ll be trying to do the short cut option of buying an already built car in the new year (I know, i feel like a cheat), in the form of Pheonix, Fury or Stylus.

I currently have an old GTM coupe in the garage, which is in need of much love and attention- which i cant give it due to a change in personal circumstances, as such it will be going and i hope to buy someone's fettled pride and joy to replace it.

I got hooked on a caterham superlight on a palmer sport day (cheapest car there, but i fell for thefeeling and feedback round a track)- research into caterhams, and the bikering between westfields and which can do X,Y and Z brought me here, some good feedback on the JP designed cars. (plus a stylus/fury looks so muc better than a caterham/westfield/ lotus 7 esc shape- in my book anyway, apologies to owners of either)

Anyway, i`ll continue having a look around and reading up on the diffrent options people have plumped for.

Where abouts on ' this ' island are you Alex , shame you didn't come to Abingdon last Friday then you would have seen 4 Sylva 's on track --- I'd have given you a spin in my Stylus . There were 3 others , a Mojo , Phoenix and another Stylus. Matt Downes has the build lust again so is selling his Stylus and it will be at Eelmoor with me next weekend 5th Oct. Chance to question and prod ' and see them perform

With regard to activity on this forum you have to remember that less than 200 Stylus's have ever been sold/made as opposed to a thousand or two of all other Sylva's put together which is where the massive sylvachatlist comes from plus a whole load of guys using it who don't even have a sylva big difference

definately not hibernating i have a track day on november the 15th all being well. It my own fault, i had a busy 3 months at the beginning of the year which set me back, i should have been where i am now in July

I know someone selling a very nice fisher fury with a 200 hp vauxhall engine. It is track focused and very quick with all the trick bits, the engine has just been rebuilt and dynoed, it has a qaif box and LSD with 2 sets of tyres.

Its in Essex if you would like to have a look. I think it is in the region of £5500 and has just had a new spray job, roll cage and lights. Its Ford Focus Orange and has MOT and is ready to go.

I`m based just north of Worcester, I had planned to pop to a Warwickshire meet tonight- but I had double booked with a promise to go pram/buggy shopping with the wife, and she won.


I`ve just looked at where you will be on the 5th, basingstoke way? thats a fair drive for me at the moment. I`m currently going DIY mad in a bid to finish off the house (I have 13 weeks left before a big change in circumstances , and i`m on the home straight nearly 5 years after moving into our first house, so i have the bit between my teeth so to speak) So, realistically i can't spare the time at the moment> i wish i could though, i`d love a passenger ride. Where are you based mr sprinter?

Thanks for the info on the fury, i`m possibly after something a little (bit) more road focussed, (well a screen and no full cage) and not until the new year (Existing garage requires demo and re building proir to putting something nice in there!) i dont want to wear a helmet if i do choose to go for a drive on public roads, although that does seem a good price for a track prepared car.

I`m considering going BEC, to keep things light and nimble in the spririt of things (Excuse windscreen)- but i`m concerned i`ll miss some torque, and i`ll find driving it on the public highway a nightmare. Still lots to research, plenty of info here and on other forums.

If you want one with all the creature comforts then I wouldn't bother with a BEC, they are also much more hard work to drive on the road (I know, I've owned one!) and without a decent sized engine (hyabusa etc) with suffer from the extra weight and lack of torque.

My Stylus will be finsihed in the next couple of months or so, and I may be open to offers, though it will be considerably more than £5k!

I know, i`ve been reading I still think it will be out of my price range at 10 k, i think 7 will be my limit on budget- I`m hoping i can pick somethng up tht fits into my requirements for that- i dont mind tinkering but i dont want the hassle of swapping to another lump and running gear.

Thats a quality lump you have in there, i`m a big fan of jap engines- although i was hoping to stay NA, it seems to suit my driving style better with progressive power up the rev range and not too much torque low down.

That's a coincidence, 1) my name is also Alex 2) my missus is due in 20 weeks 3) I've just spent the last 5 years doing up my house with a mad DIY dash to finish it just over and now its on the market !!!
The only difference is, I DO have a Stylus

I bet you didn't get much help on the DIY front either, bar some 'handy hints- like you've missed a bit, or i would have have painted it with the brush stroke this way'

actually, she's a top tiler, so can't grumble about her diy skills!

I keep checking everyday but tis certainly quiet on here.

I havent touched mine, before i take it to any events i want to rose joint the rear suspension, adjust the front camber, (somehow) so any ideas on how to do this or should i just rose joint my existing wishbones, then i can adjust them in the existing brackets in the chassis.

Mat, you may be able to answer this, can i use the existing brackets on the chassis with the new rose joints or do i need to make new brackets. I am assuming the existing brackets will be much wider than the r/joints, do i just shim them?, which will give me adjustment on the front to adjust the castor.

Oh, and i'm on the look out for a bigger turbo to the full potential from the engine. 8k rpm here we come
