Tony if the ball joint doesn't come apart when you unscrew it and has a male thread then it's a metro part, if it does come apart and has a female thread it's the mini one.
Upper pivots seem to vary; some appear to use a mini(metro?) trailing arm pivot, others a mini front arm pivot and my early car has a long bolt - I've not striped it so I'm not sure what bearings on mine are like.
The Mini sport web site has good pictures of all the different set ups;http://www.minisport.com/acatalog/Mini_ ... ml#aGSJ166
Front Rocker Arm Assembly
Re: Front Rocker Arm Assembly
our top ball joints where the male thread type and screwed into the mk2 escort uprights, where Tim put a welded insert in. The rocker arm has the long pin with the needle rollers in. Ours was one of the last chassis done, so had most of the recent mods done.
Re: Front Rocker Arm Assembly
cheers guys,
Matt, my mistake, they are like my bearings. I have stripped the spindles and given everything a good clean and they are nice and free. There was still lots of grease in the tube which is a good sign i suppose.
I have machined a pair of spacers which have done the trick so its all nice and snug fitting now.
The lower wishbones are now rose jointed and ready to be fitted.
I need to completely remove the upright and get it in a vice to remove the top ball joints (which i think are the metro ones) as i can get them out while the upright is still attached to the car by the track control arm and the caliper.
My local motor factor has ordered the Top B/J's which i can collect tomorrow, once that little lot is in, i will have all new suspension joints, bushes and wheel bearings all round which can only be a good thing. Then back to my mates workshop to 'borrow' his 4w alignment machine again and adjust everything where i want it.
I can now easily adjust camber, caster and toe all while its on the ramp, and with rose joints i will have half turn adjustability.
I'm looking to do a track day at the end of the month, thinking about snetterton, my cousin's Fury has just been dynoed and is ready to go so it should be fun, anyone else up for it?
