seatbelt attachments
The roll bar fitted to my car (from P.P.) has four welded-in threaded inserts for the seatbelt mounts, all well and good except they are not symetrical from side to side and they don't line up with the harness holes in the back of my seats! As far as SVA/IVA goes can the harness be fitted around the tube and buckled some how rather than bolted via a bracket? This would allow sideways movement to suit.

Why don't you fit a lap belt just to keep the SVA happy then sort it later

You can wrap the harness around the tube & back into the buckle (same as the harness goes through the D ring). This method is used in some production cars for the lap strap, mainly on 2 door cars for easier rear seat entry & to allow for the seat adjustment. But the SVA may not like it as the strap could slide the length of the bar. If you have high seats & the harness runs through guide holes in the top, I would have thought Your method was good.

Don't run the seatbelts through the seatbelt holes in your seats for SVA, because they need a certification then to prove they can withstand certain forces in case of a collision. especially if the seatbelts touch the holes when you're strapped in!
Just run them round the seats for SVA.
Also make sure your roll bar is properly secured if seatbelts are attached to it, someone else on here had difficulties as the rollbar was not properly attached to the chassis in the view of the tester.

Thanks for that, I also read the post about roll bar attachment and added a plate with captive nuts under the main legs and added the tube insert on the rear chassis rails for the rear legs, but the regs about seats with belts going thru is a new one on me and I'm glad you mentioned it....

Interesting - I've got seat belts through holes in the seat back (cobra seats), and they didn't line up. I made an adaptor plate with 6mm steel and put high-tens bolts through holes drilled in this. The plate is bolted to the original mounting holes and the belts pass through without any contact.
As an engineering solution, I think this is strong enough. However my background is electronics, so if anyone with more experience thinks this is a really bad idea, either from SVA point of view, or if its actually dangerous, please tell me.
I imagine when I finally get round to my SVA (almost 6 years down the line!!!) I'll just put a lap belt on. I don't suppose this affects subsequent inspections - MOT etc?

You do realise that SVA has to be applied for PDQ or you will need to be going for the IVA?

H'mm but you do realise of course that P.P didn't have the skills to a fabr' a chassis , not even badly --- that was down to that Yorkshire twit or where ever he came from , who used to build chassis for several different companies .
