SVA fail today - but not too bad....
SVA fail today - but not too bad....
Though most it it was fairly minor, forgot the reflectors on the back of the car, couple of small easily fixed sharp edges in the cockpit, twisted brake hose, need a nose cone grill and the most irritating, failed emissions on CO2 which was 1.07 instead of 0.3.
Only frustrating thing was the engine boiling over, yet the rad didn't seem to get hot. Checked the thermostat and the water pump, both ok, must be in the plumbing....
Still, got a month to fix it cos they're now booked solid till the end of the month, can't imagine why
BTW - brakes went though fine, so thanks all for your help on that one.

Be very careful regarding the '' water '' boiling --- that's exactly the problem another Nissan Turbo Stylus had and took headwork £'s before curing it Have you got all the air outNissanman wrote:Though most it it was fairly minor, forgot the reflectors on the back of the car, couple of small easily fixed sharp edges in the cockpit, twisted brake hose, need a nose cone grill and the most irritating, failed emissions on CO2 which was 1.07 instead of 0.3.

Possibly not, got a cheap infrared thermometer coming from Ebay to try to help spot any airlocks.

Lift , jack or have the car on a slant to ensure that the water filler is the highest point by a good margin. Run the engine without the filler cap for 40 odd minutes , letting it overflow if air forces it to BUT be there to immediately top up while that's happening because normally it will drop fast just after overflowing and let air back in. When the water reaches temperature , opening the thermostat and it no longer overflows or bubbles ---- set the water level , topping up or sucking out as necessary then screw the cap on and let the engine cycle again . Check all the hoses and radiator for temp' , if ok , you've done it JasperNissanman wrote:Possibly not, got a cheap infrared thermometer coming from Ebay to try to help spot any airlocks.
Don't skimp on this just because it makes a mess of the engine bay or you may regret it
Everybody will tell you it will sort itself out ignore them , this way you can't go wrong OR bugger your ' head ' up

Re: SVA fail today - but not too bad....
also, squeesing the flexible hoses at the high points of the system will push the trapped air around. you'll hear a gurgling sound as you squeeze the pipe if there's air in there
Re: SVA fail today - but not too bad....
So everything is now sorted for the re-test, brake lines done and I think I've got the cooling system sorted now. Next week it's going back to the rolling road guy to have another go at getting the CO down, and if that doesn't work then the CAT must be knackered, it's an old one on loan.....

Yup - seems to, she'll get a proper test tomorrow when I drive her to the rolling road to have another go at the emissions tomorrow.

Re: SVA fail today - but not too bad....
Well, the cooling system still ain't right, I'll posted a question on the sxoc forum to see if somebody can shed some light, think it must be down to plumbing rather than not bleeding it properly.
Still, I had a great run over to the rolling road place, the car was superb on the dual carriageway, suspension seemed not too harsh, it pulled really nice and the dump valve sounded fantastic
Turns out the problem with the emissions was down to the ECU not having a permanent live, it just lost all the setting the guy put in last time. So I rewired it and now it's all fine, CO is down to 0.1 .... so roll on SVA re-test next week!

Seems obvious I know BUT ---------- is the fan going the right way Do you know for certain that the plumbing you've done is as per manufacturer spec'Nissanman wrote:Well, the cooling system still ain't right, I'll posted a question on the sxoc forum to see if somebody can shed some light, think it must be down to plumbing rather than not bleeding it properly.

Re: SVA fail today - but not too bad....
Fan is right way - checked that, I'm checking to see if I have got the plumbing right, especially the pipes to and from the header tank.
Overheats at idle and driving in town, fine cruising at speed and when gunning....
