Does anyone know where Tim was getting his Roll over bars done? We need to get on and get one to fimish off the body! Will probably end up making one i expect, but if i can track down where they were done it would be easier!

Is it for road (ie IVA) or track, rear braced or front braced ???

My original bar was made for SSC (Pete Powell) by Nev Powell in Liphook. Bit heavy, too low for track, rear braced.
Second & current bar was supplied by Tim.
Front braced, 2" CDS, track height (just) & much lighter than original.
Tim went to Caged first but they took too long, so he had someone else local (to him) make it.
Caged (in Wiltshire) may well have the drawing (as requested for mine), but I guess they are quite busy making Caterham chassis !
If you want to look at mine, no probs. Not too far away in Lindford / Andover

for raod use, so will need to be IVA compliant. More than likely going for inertia reels! Obviously want it to be head height, otherwise its pointless having it!
Its the later front braced style that Tim did (we have one of the last chassis done!)
They are simple enough to do, just thought if anyone had a drawing for it, would save a lot of measuring etc!

Just make sure , in case you ever go on track or turn it over on road , that the top of the rollbar is at least 100mm's higher than your head , when seated. If not , then it's totally useless Pete's / ssc original standard rollbar wouldn't have saved your head in an accident , it just made it easy to fit the hood

Yes mine is front braced, but I had to drill & tube the forward side moutings.
IIRC, Tim's later chassis had mounting plates specifically welded in to take the roll bar, so yours would be like that ??
As Rob says, rollbar height is a compromise between high enough to give proper roll over protection & low enough so that you can still get the hood up.
You want +50 to 100mm for it to actually have a safety benefit.
MSA Regs say +50 minimum above crash helmet.
If it really is just a road car, fine, but if there's even an inkling that you might track day it, hillclimb/sprint it then plan ahead. No point in buying two roll bars if you don't have too !
Re: The Hood, as Tim is not around currently, you'll be getting your's made locally so whatever height you go with can be accomodated by the trimmer.
The original height roll bars were more looks than function & (in my opinion) a product of Pete Powells need to mount seat belts, but still have the ability to fit the factory hood.
Just be aware that if you go higher with your bar, its likely that a secondhand or copied original hood/pattern probably won't fit !

I think we will end up doing our own! We want to do track days with it and possibly some hill climbing, so defo need it to be above our heads, no point if not!
The hood we will be getting done by a local trimmer, always was the plan, even when SSC was in operation, so it can be done to suite, so not worried on that front!

I'll have a measure up but pretty sure mine's 47mm 's diameter and '' blue book '' spec' gauge --- read thin/light . I've got two 2009 blue books now so you could have one . If you plan to compete at some point you will need the threaded inserts for 4 or 6 point harnesses welded into the crossbar. Lap belts wont surfice for hillclimbing . OK --- it's actually 45mm's CDS . It's 98cm's overall width -- 60 cm's high from the boot ledge/behind your seat to the top of the bar. The cross bar is 25cm's high from the same place to the upper edge of the cross bar. The harness mounting threaded inserts are directly behind your neck and centred 90mm's apart. The exact position depends on your own seating position/style of seat but starts at about 85mm's from the inside of the bar upright tube.

Spoke to Neville Powell today and he is going to do us a bar and whilst he is at it, he is going to do the exhaust manifold for us too! Very knowledgeable guy and prices seem good too. We will give him the car so he can do it all.

If it's not too late I have a standard Stylus roll bar for sale, it's no good for me as I'm 6'2" and need a taller one which I'm getting made.

Jasper - thanks for the offer, but the old man is a similar height and so want a taller one too!
Kev - Yes it will be the latest front mounted one. He is going to do it on the car and fit it all correctly etc. I dont have enough confedence in the chassis for 2 of them to be the same and fit! Ours was so far out in places its unreal!

he is going to do the main tube in 2" CDS and the rest in 1 5/8"
