My car just went up in flames
My car just went up in flames
Bugger me, that was a bit of an evening - went out for an early evening drive up some local country roads, engine started cutting out, so I pull over, next thing I know there's flamers coming out of the bonnet vents. Got out very quickly (seen too many movies with cars exploding), got to a safe distance and called 999. No extinuighser on board - what a numpty....
By the time the fire brigade got there the whole car is burning
So that's the end of the Stylus .... I need a stiff drink and a lie down .......

Nope, no idea, was burning as I got out of the car, so I just got away quick......
Going up there this morning to try to salvage anything - though the pikies will probably have been at it by now, then get the insurance company to call the recovery truck.

Pikies got the wheels and tyres, not much else left....
Yes, agreed value, fully comp insurance, so hopefully will all go smoothly....
Anyway - thanks to everybody on here for all their help with the build - don't know if I'll build another one, think I need a break now!

Sh1T !
What can I say, that's a real downer after all that work.
I really really upset for you, but try not to beat yourself up about it.
Were you thrashing it, or just of for a cruise ?
Matt

Re: My car just went up in flames
Damn, all that hard work and no joy
How long is/was it on the road now? Few months
Anyway, hopefully the insurance pays out quickly.

Re: My car just went up in flames
really sorry to hear that jasper, as long as you are ok. I have always been paranoid and i will be double checking my fuel lines now. I carry a couple of fire extinguishers but i dont know how effective they would be if a fuel line popped.
Help! just starting out
Edit: Getting the hang of it............. Slowly

Re: My car just went up in flames
You have a lot more space around your engine than Jasper's and you've got side exit's although they'd be better bigger plus lots of 90mm holes drilled under the exhaust area sill to drag the heat away. Getting it away is much more important than getting it in ' fire wise ' .
I've got large slots in front of the door hinges plus 3 x 90mm holes under each front sill . I've also removed the so called strengthening ' D ' pieces down the inner sills both sides . On top of that my side exaust exit is cut right back to the chassis with inches of space around the silencer front and rear . This isn't purely to clear the silencer heat but to allow a good volume of hot air flow = out from the engine bay. I know a lot of guys think it's not pretty to cut chunks out of the cute little Stylus body shell but it could save you one day
