Brake Master Cylinder & a Shocking Hand brake

Post by PuppiesBalls »

Evening Gents,
Im looking to replace my brake master cylinder, It currently has the brake servo off the donor car & braking requires substantial leaning on the pedal!

Its got a bias valve for the rear so I think I could get away with just a single, slightly larger master cylinder... Any suggestions dudes :D

My handbreak is rubbish too, any suggestions to make it hold harder?

Thanks Gents :D

I've never used a servo on my Stylus and the brakes are very good . Personally I'd dump the servo and fit good cylinders for each . ie. front and rear. Either way a car weighing 600kgs doesn't need a servo , just good discs , pads (preferably Hawk) . If I put my handbrake on the car's going absolutely nowhere  so first of all I'd check out the drums/linings or disc's/pads etc and the cable
You'll get a much better feel of the car by pressing a touch harder but using good components
I just love the Stylus but she keeps swallowing £££ !

Yeah I was planning to dump the servo, I really dont think there is any need!
I think it will be more suitable for my setup if i had just a single cylinder for both front & rear rather than twin, afterall I can control the brake bias so theres no need to complicate the system :)

Rear Discs- 10" -Non vented
Front Discs- 9" - Vented
Thats not a typo- The fronts are smaller than the rear!

They're not a pretty sight :( Floating and cast iron too  I know budget controls all but I'd change to WILLWOOD with some HAWK pads plus sort the cylinders  sorry

Whats wrong with Floating calipers? thousands of cars come out of the factory with them fitted every day,
Its just the manufacturers way to reduce cost as they only require 1 pot where as fixed calipers would require 2 or more.
Any idea roughly how much a set of front & rear brakes will cost from wilwood?
Also any suggestion what size master cylinders to use?

Many thanks :)

Floaters easily jam plus they're cast iron , that's enough for me. Can't compare lightweight kit cars with production logic/costs
Regarding cost of callipers and cylinders , size etc , I don't know off hand . When I've got time I'll take a look at mine(forgotten what's fitted - too long ago  ) It's sheeted up now. Check out their website for costs

Yes , if that's what uprights you have but they might be sierra :?: I've never seen callipers like that on a Ford though so it depends what's been put on the car . That guy did some aweful things to it
