Battery ??

Post by stylussprinter »

Who uses either a Varley redtop or Oddessy to start their high compression big bhp engine :?: Turbo engines aren't relevant as they are so low compression. If I need to change it would be good to here others experience with these two race batteries

Hi Rob, don't use either! Still using a little 'wet' battery i've had for a while. still turns 12:1 with a reduction gear starter no problem. Mike

Not high compression but on my smokey XFlow I use the Powervamp PVR25 which I think are the same apart from an anti vibration thingy.

Not had a problem with mine apart from I prob need more Ah.

Thanks guys . Just had a very quick message from Paul Dunnell saying he's had a first look at the ecu info which doesn't indicate any low battery issues . He'll go right through it tomorrow. Good job I didn't just go and buy a new battery

It's just been rebuilt at ' huge ' cost but will only start if it feels like it and only then after five minutes winding the starter on and off loads of times. Whizzes over fine but fires like a fart then with luck sometimes starts . See topic engines etc

I can fully appreciate how huge the cost of a decent engine rebuild.... having just finished mine it worked out a hell of a lot more expensive than I could ever have imagined, I got slightly carried away with the spec which may have affected the overall cost :D.. Ill have a read of the engines topic now

She's on the button now and the battery wasn't an issue . It was the water temp ' sensor causing the problem , making the ECU confused. I assumed the temp sensor was on the engine when Dunnell ran it on the dyno (not so)------ since found out he runs his own water system for all engines on the dyno(very anti Raceline's waterail and sump) If only I'd known that I would have checked the water temp sensor straight off
