Does anyone ever think... 'right im going to do this today, and then halfway through the thing you were doing decide that maybe it would be a good idea to take the engine out?!!!!

I think you've opened a can of worms there, the very idea of changing your engine has already seeded in your mind!!
What sort of work does the car do, track/road?
How often do you drive and think to yourself 'I need more power?' (everytime I guess)
If you stay with a ford motor your gearbox will bolt straight up, but will it be strong enough?
The xflow exhausts to the nearside as does a zetec, but how would you fuel it? injection and a cat or transfer your xflow carbs?
Engine mounts not to big an issue, but your wallet may be!!
Good luck either way....
Pete.

I had a guy here last week in his Fury to chat about my ARB's and he had an extremely reliable Zetec 2lt blacktop on 45's . It had' power a plenty' and had toured Europe more than once with other Sylva drivers. It had 153bhp at the wheels on the rolling road , I think with standard bits . He told me he wasn't bothered tuning it any more because if it popped he could pick up another for £300 :o That would blow away the crossflow plus be reliable . To get that power from a cross flow would set you back £8000 easy. I've got a perfect pair of 45's plus Dunnell ECU and loom to haggle over
I just love the Stylus but she keeps swallowing £££ !

yes all to play for guys, lets see what comes of some decision making, when the wife finds out!!!

problem is once id taken it out im looking at the rest of the engine bay and thinking? i really should tidy this up, oooh the wiring needs a little tidying......... see there is always something to do so im not sure the old wallet would cope with too much change but i would love to think about it
depends on the price? id love to consider the 45's and the dunnell gear rob, p.m me, i wouldnt even know where to start with an offer

I've just gone throught this same argument/discussion in my head. Should I keep my old Xflow or go for a Zetec or 4AGE.

I decided to keep the Xflow as it was in good order and everything was working well (apart from a thirst for oil) and putting out 102 at the wheels it was enough to be nippy. When it goes bang or gets too oil thirsty and my wallet is big enough then I'll go with a newer engine but for now I'll stick with the great sound of the Xflow on bike carbs.

If you do move to another engine, dont forget a decent Xflow will sell for a few quid so would give you some pennies for all the extras you might need.
