WORKING UNDER COVER

Post by spidermike »

Hi, just got the hood finished, 8) just needs a tweak hear and there .as you can see one of the straps isn't in the right place  but not a big problem.
Made my self a frame at the back for the roof to lay on because the roll bar doesn't sit for enough out to cover the interior .Just made from metal tube bent into shape then welded together and covered with heater pipe. Think it looks ok when the hood isn't on, not sure but going to make it so it slots together in three parts. Then it can be stored away in the boot. Made the in fill at the front out of jam  (fibreglass out of a tin) put some cling film over the screen header and just started building up until it looked some thing like,, o and drilled 2 holes in the header and put some bolts through into the jam then when its gone of I could fasten it on with them. Then about 2hours rubbing to get it to look something like ,Then took the car to my trimmer mat and he made the hood..
Me thinks it looks good ..
8) Made this for a quick fix in the rain ,can get it up in 30 sec ... pardon the pun

Lot of heafty pipe work  The factory one was made from 20mm tube , one hoop over the middle(above your head to make the sheet oval) the other one rearwards . Looks like Jill Judds half hood :D Can you get in and out under the flat sheet :?: Looks good 8)

looks like a good job, its always satisfying doing something yourself.

Can you get in with the hood up? Mine is currently having a half hood made, i'm interested to know how easy it will be although i think my roll bar is a little higher than yours.

I need to make some new windows but I need some perspex, where did you get yours?
Help! just starting out

I'm not sure where in Essex you are but Ipswich Plastics in (surprisingly :o ) Ipswich (not too far if you are in north essex) carries a good range of perspex or polycarbonate (this scratches too easily though) and at a reasonable price

You don't want perspex breaking that close to your face though  polycarbonate's much safer , although as you say , it does scratch.

Mike,

Just seen your advert on Pistonheads and noticed you were in South Yorks. Which trimming company did you use to make your roof as it looks perfect for what I'm after?

Cheers

Looks really good. I might go down the same route when I get round to replacing the hood.

Just one question - how well does the hood "seal" with the top of the window? On my roof there's a flap that the window butts up against to provide some kind of weather seal.
