Anybody building or working on a car should know the following:

the bit at the bottom of that that says about a warning for grinding aluminium before grinding steel has been on grinders for years.

The warning reads DO NOT USE GRINDING WHEEL TO GRIND NON FERROUS METAL AS EXPLOSION AND DAMAGE TO WHEEL MAY OCCUR.

I have had lots of experience with thermite in the past and it is very very hot.

you can create it by using aluminium powder and iron filings that are very fine as that article says. usually though you need a lot of heat to start the chemical reaction or use of a catalyst. We used to use magnesium ribbon to act as a fuse. You can also use 2 carbon rods to create an arc.

Good fun if you know what you are doing but I don't suggest you try it as if you placed it on the top of your engine and lit it, it would melt through and come out the bottom.
Yep! right through the block!

Believe me. i've done it!
