Black top zetec clutch release bearing

Hi,

I have a black top zetec with a torque limiting clutch (its slipping).
Im not too sure if its slipping because when i installed the black top I didnt adjust the clutch cable correctly.
Its been adjusted now but its still slipping, the release fork/arm is against the bell housing, so theres no point slackening the cable off any more as it wont make a difference.
The question is what clutch release bearing should I be using?
Are some deeper than others.

Is there a posibility ive bu66ered a new clutch with in 3000 miles?

I've still got the original 1999 build AP heavy duty cover which has done 7000 plus miles and the organic plate I took out when upgrading the engine was still perfect at 4500 miles . My oppinion is that with anything over 170bhp you are well advised to use a heavy duty cover because that's the major cause of slipping clutches if driven hard . It's just not worth using a standard cover when changing a clutch means engine out --- ugh !

I don't think the release bearing should be as close to the bell housing I would suggest the set up is the wrong one for the combo you have. Sorry not really an answer.

Rob the engine and clutch came from Paul Dunnell. I dont want to kick up a stink if its something that I have done incorrectly. (poor initial setting of the clutch cable).
I was just looking for ideas. The clutch only started to slip once I had fitted the new wider rear tyres Yoko A021's 205 wide.

Sounds a bit odd!! Have you got any tension on the clutch cable? Where is the arm touch the belhousing-front or back? When there is no tension on the cable the arm will be loose. I tighten the cable to the point when the arm is keeping the release bearing just 'snug' against the clutch fingers.

The release bearing that I use is from the pinto engined sierra

However, I have the Raceline flywheel with an uprated cover and std friction plate from Burton power, again for the pinto engined sierra, all in a alloy belhousing which uses a lotus cortina release arm NOT the std arm from a sierra T9.

I can come and have a look if you think an extra set eyes might help.

Thanks Mike, I'll give you a bell when I get the engine out.

There is no tension in the clutch cable and the arm is touching the bell housing in the fully slack position.
I havd one of the guys on tour have a look at it for me and he adjusted it. We wernt sure if the arm was touching after we adjusted as we had no undercar access.
