Xflow to Zetec upgrade

Just noticed this on Dunnells site, don't know how I missed it before:

So £4000inc VAT for the 189bhp spec engine with everything needed (apart fron starter I guess) including a lightened fly wheel already.

That about £1k more than I was working out buying the bits individually and the hassle of getting flywheels machined and fitting sumps and getting it Rolling Roaded to set up the ECU, etc...

Hmmmm thats a tempting alternative if I can justify the extra cost

That's a stunning bargain plus once you've had a Dunnell engine you wont want another engine builder .That's less than it cost me to build my first Dunnell engine from a kit of parts 10yrs ago or more

I assume that comes fully mapped and run in as well? Instant fun! How throuough have you been with your budgeting as well- the little bits you didn't think of can really add up. I have a huge stack of receipts in my garage, I'm not sure I want to add them up- and I'm taking a considerably cheaper route than you!

Dunnell engines are all dyno run to optimise power/torque and come with ECU and loom . That particular engine deal includes TB's without a spindle through the throats , an upgrade from mine which are sequential and have 115mm's trumpets. There's not a lot of profit in that deal for Paul

Which makes me think its an offer too good to be true. Will find out when they reply to my email.

Well you don't need it run in or power tested if it's the map they bung on all their 190ish zetecs, should save £680+20%. The sump would probably be a good idea though!

If you want to go to the other end of the scale my engine cost £80! All appeared ok when I opened it up. It definitely won't make 190, but it should get a good way there when I eventually finish it. If you've got the space the cheapest way is to buy an old mondeo, you can make a profit buy selling the bits you don't need and weighing in the shell. And you can drive it to see if it's knackered or not!

Might be worth putting a wanted ad on locostbuilders, there may be someone planning on dumping their zetec over the winter.
