Big guy in a stylus?

Howdy.

I am 6'7" and 225 lbs with a 36" inseam. I am curious how compatible these measurements are with a Stylus RT from SSC. I don't want to spend a lot of time and money building a great car only to spend my drive time staring at the windshield header. Insight is welcome! Thanks, Robert

There's been a few v'big guys build Stylus's , classic and RT . First choice is to fit the seat pan out with padding to fit as opposed to fitting a '' seat '' . The other thing to bare in mind is that Tim ssc , is planning to drop the height of the floor on future chassis if required . Depending where you are , you could always try sitting in one of our cars or Tim's demo RT to assess your fit . Then , if it wasn't enough , a chassis could be sorted from SSC , I'm sure

i'm a big guy at 6' 6" and 19st. i have a normal roadster seat in my car and i have no problem looking through the windscreen.

like rob said if you got a carbon seat and padded it to suit yourself, you could drop the height even further by maybe even as much as 2 or more inches. my seat has quite a padded base.

as for leg room. i have a 36" leg and i find there is Just enough room for me to drive the car comfortably for long distance. i test drove a friends westfield wide body but i could hardly fit in between the side and the tunnel. the stylus has a very wide drivers side due to the offset position of the engine and this makes for a comfortable ride. also i'm pretty sure if you went to see tim and tried one for size, if you do find that even with the seat back you still feel cramped there may be a very easy way of moving the pedals even further forward by a couple of inches to suit you.

if you are anywhere near gloucester you are welcome to come and try mine for size!

I have a strong worry that I would go to the trouble to get/build one and then it would end up being a MX5 Miata, i.e. too small and I look thru the windshield header.

The dropped floor, thin seat and relocated pedals seem just the trick.

What about weather gear?

You just get it made to suit or a kit from SSC . Also another route to keeping dry which I favour is '' half hoods '' by a company called softbitsforsevens , look it up on google , the lady's name is Jill Judd . Can't remember where but I've put a link to her company on this forum Could be '' What doesn't fit anywhere else '' section
It works on the basis that if you go fast enough you don't get wet anyway ----- so simply provides the minimum coverage , no sides or rear and very quick to put up.
Then there's SSC's hard top being developed

I'm 6'5" and I have Fury seats, the floor isn't lowered and I have no problem. To make it comfortable on long journeys I just hook my left foot under the clutch pedal. The only slight problem I do have is a knee/gearstick interface when in 5th, but my gearstick isn't shortened.

Getting in the car with the weather gear on requires some gymnastic ability but a removable steering wheel helps a lot.

I am just trying to et a relative comparison. Neither really fits me, so I want to know if a Stylus is even smaller, then I am getting into something completely different there.

I appreciate the offers of test sits, by the way. The problem rests with me being near Mannhei, Germany, which is a bit far from most of you.

To be honest , I think the comparison with both is irrelevant . Production cars have space wasting seats and padding . Werner who administrates this site has a Stylus in mid build and is in Belgium (Antwerp ?) That's probably the closest '' sit '' test for you. With floor mounted peddles and other adjustments I mentioned before , regarding seating , it wont be a problem . What I can do is take some measurements of ----- back of seat pan to peddle floor bulkhead . ------- width in three positions from 'bum' to feet. ----- steering wheel height from floor. ---- floor to top of windscreen ----- left and right elbow room. ????????????????

Well, I'm 6'4" and you can always visit to try fit, there's also a Stylus near Arnhem at Speedon. They're converting it for a customer from 1.8 zetec to rover V8! Don't know exactly wich is closer to Mannheim.

Currently it has hanging pedals, but I will convert to adjustable floormounted pedals as my girlfriend is only 5'1" and I don't want to put the seats on runners.

Take all of the following with a pinch of salt as I'm still building but; I'm 5'11" but 230 lbs, there is just room for my backside in the bottom of the drivers side cockpit but as the sides are tapered a little height - a thin seat or padding improves things, although I'm 8' shorter than you my inside leg is 6' of the diference so my eye line isn't that diferent and I have no problems with the header rail bring in my line of sight.

Yep! you're right. its far too small. i couldn't drive it safely even with the seat right back. my stylus is definately way bigger than that. and more fun!

I thought you received the pricing brochure that I emailed to you In there describes all 3 modules and what comes with each plus each £price per module .
