Fitted one of the new filters today; very nice. Oiling them up is a nasty mucky job though!

Didn't fit the second as after taking the element off the backplate I noticed a sensor fitted to it. Not entirely sure what for, but it's plugged into a wire which heads in the direction of the bulkhead gromet (to the ecu?) and the sensor itself resembles some kind of air flow meter. Not entirely sure what for though as the carbs would surely take care of the mixture?

Anyone able to shed any light on it?

Excellent, ta. Will have to see if there's a way to mount it inside the sock I guess!

Hi Joeseph, i wouldn't bother mounting it inside a sock. So long as it sits in the vicinity of the air that is being drawn into the engine it should be ok. I you were fitting a sausage filter or air box it could easily be mounted inside the box or filter.mike

Thanks Mike - I came to that conclusion when fitting the other sock this morning. Currently it's wedged between the two socks but that doesn't strike me as a particuarly reliable long term solution! I think I'll make up a little plate which can be bolted between the two inside top studs on the carbs to mount it on so it sits just between and above the socks. Close enough, like you say.

So, just been out for a drive after fitting the socks earlier and there's a noticably different sound; less 'hollow' than the cheapy K&N copies that were there before.

However, the front right caliper seized and was pouring smoke when I got home. Oops...
