Hi Rossco

Welcome,

that sounds like a good ratio it you are making 3k rpm at 70 mph.

What axle are you running?, the ford live axle?

We are paying about £1 per litre for fuel which is about 2.23 aus dollars. does that make you feel any better?

be good to see some pictures of your project as i am going the turbo rotary route and some pointers for the exhaust and turbo position would be helpfull.

regards
Tony

alecmartin19 wrote:there is a gear calculator also on the quaife website which is excellent. you can select tyre size, all the gear ratios and the final drive (diff) ratio. put all that in and it'll give you the top speed in each gear for the rpm of the engine and also give you the rev drop between gears which is also very helpful.

i have got a 4.44 ratio in my stylus which would be great if i had a longer 1st gear. the 1st on a standard sierra box is pretty pointless in a car this light. you gotta change gear before you've even moved anywhere. as for 5th gear, yes my engine does rev a little higher at 70 than most but i don't really see this as a problem.

for a car for the road i think a 3.89 or a 4.1 is good. i think any lower than those like 3.45, you'd find each gear not as useable and the car wouldn't be as much fun.

maybe rob will agree! 4.4 for track? 3.89 for road?
Yep , I'd go along with that

Hi Antnicuk
You asked, what axle? Yes, I am using the Ford 2Litre Gia unit with a 3.54 ratio. Will be good for cruising, but probably a bit tall for "get up and go!"

The diff ratio on the original Nissan 200SX S13 was 4.363 but this was for a much heavier car than the Stylus.

Re fuel prices, your 1 pound per litre just shows that you are being ripped off even more than we are. (cannot type the symbol for "pound" it is not on our keyboards !!)

Re pictures of the project. I did have lots on the computer, but a major crash a while back destroyed most of them. Will take some more soon & try to post them, altho I am not sure how and where ??
