Powerspeed make the exhausts for Tim, so they know the right dimensions. I ordered a silencer over the phone, just told them the internal diameter needed. BTW - I had to get the section from the turbo to the silencer made locally though, as it had to be done it situ to make sure it fit properly, but if yours is a Zetec it may be more standard.

I would advise speaking to Fisher Fury on exhausts. They do a 5" stainless silencer for £137.49 compared to the £230 from powerspeed. Tim charges the same as powerspeed, but powerspeed answer the phone etc....

A 5 inch silencer will not get the power from a potential 200 bhp zetec as I've previously said. Through pipe will need to be 2.5 inches also if you have the minimum diameter 6 inch to attain the power/decibels , it will need to be off-set out from the chassis and protruding a bit from the body. This means that the entry pipe has to be built with a ' dog leg ' so's to connect to the collecter without burning the lower f/glass .
My point being , that if you order a standard type silencer of whatever size , it will have the pipes centrally welded and that will cause problems
If you don't allow for this then the front end of the silencer will be very close to the chassis/or touch it THEN the rear end will protrude further out than the front (no dog leg) and look NAFF . If the silencer HAS to protrude then being the same gap from the door sill AND parallel to the body makes the car look great as opposed to '' well , it's in there ''

I may be missing something here , of course , if your car is the RT  because that model WILL take a standard built (centrally piped)silencer  Can't re-call which he has :?:
I just love the Stylus but she keeps swallowing £££ !

we have the classic, not the RT.

So your saying that we will need a dog leg in the pipe? If so, then when we get the manifold done, we will get the pipe modified at the same time.

From memory , you don't have a Zetec :?:  so I don't know what size manifold primaries/diam' - lengths you need. This means --- possibly ----- you may only need a 4 or 5 inch silencer for your power and decibels :?:  In which case you may not need a dog leg :?:  I seem to recall you saying you didn't want the silencer exposed so with a CLASSIC that restricts what pipe/silencer will go in anyway regardless of bhp or decibel or heat , concerns

I was really replying assuming pretty high bhp ---- 200 or more

Stylussprinter - do you have any pics of your system? from under the bonnet as well as from the side? This would really help me get a better understanding of whats needed.
Thanks :D

Image Here are all the views I could practically get , light permmiting  Last pic' shows the rubber dolly clearly mounted on top of the alloy bracket that I fitted through the chassis , just before the seat pan.

Hope these help

Well, I bought the T304 tubing, got a decent collector made, installed the silencer.....all good so far.
Then I managed to justify a tube bender for work so that is in my garage ready.
Got a Tig unit on loan, so everythings ready, just need mr expert welder - or so I thought....
Located said welder, told him of all my bits to which he replies "you can't bend stainless"
(well, not without a mandrel bender anyway).

Anyhoo, had to spend another £70 on mandrel bends off some dodgy dude on Ebay,
will just have to wait and see whether they turn up or not...... :?
Need to be finished in 2 weeks, I MUST BE ON THE ROAD FOR APRIL!!!!!!!

So for any other people who didn't realise you couldn't bend stainless....................YOU CAN'T BEND STAINLESS.....

Afraid not, I'm currently moving production from one site to another, and being as its my responsibility, I'm working every day including BH monday
Good news it flew through MOT - then handbrake cable snapped on the way home!
